The Marvel NOW! title, which emerges directly from out of the events of Avengers Vs. X-Men, will unite the divided corners of the Marvel Universe.
"In the post-AvX world, the X-Men... had kind of been ghettoised in the best way possible," executive editor Tom Brevoort said during Marvel's Next Big Thing conference call.
"They stuck to their own corner of the Marvel Universe and stuck to their own stuff.... That artificial boundary is really just going away. That's not going to be there anymore after AvX is done."
Writer Rick Remender said that the new Avengers team will mark a refreshed pursuit of Charles Xavier's vision of the peaceful coexistence of humans and mutants.
"They're really going to what Chuck's philosophy was here," he said. "This is a return to the original dream."
The title will also see lesser-known X-Man Havok pushed into a position of leadership.
"He's being promoted to a role that he doesn't want, but is really huge," said Remender.
Uncanny Avengers #1 will debut on October 10, with art by John Cassaday.
