The creator - best known as a writer - will also illustrate his forthcoming project.
"For the first time in nine years I'm writing and drawing a book," he said on Twitter. "Embarking on this is about as close as I'm gonna get to a mid-life crisis."
The project is expected to be the children's graphic novel he has previously teased.
Winick recently announced his departure from DC Comics' Batwing.
"My departure is simply a time issue. I'm pursing a few other projects that make it impossible for me to continue doing a monthly book," he told Newsarama.
Winick first became known as the cartoonist on the acclaimed graphic novel Pedro and Me and The Adventures of Barry Ween, Boy Genius.
