Hiroaki Samura's long-running manga series has been running in Afternoon magazine in Japan since 1993, and is published in the West by Dark Horse Comics.
The story follows an immortal samurai warrior in feudal Japan attempting to lift the curse of everlasting life by slaying 1,000 guilty men.
Samura originally intended to complete the story within five volumes, but due to the scope of the concept and its enduring popularity, it has now spanned almost 30.
Blade of the Immortal picked up an Eisner Award for 'Best US Edition of Foreign Material' in 2000.
The final issue of the series will appear in the February issue of Afternoon, on sale December 25, AnimeNewsNetwork understands.
