Superman #13 will see a major change in Clark Kent's status quo.
New writer Scott Lobdell will launch his second issue on the title on Wednesday (October 24) with the reporter's departure from the Daily Planet.
After struggling with his feelings for Lois Lane and mounting pressure from editor Perry White and Galaxy Broadcasting head Morgan Edge, Kent walks out of his job after delivering a fiery sermon on the state of journalism.
His departure prompts colleague Cat Grant to follow him out the door.
"I wasn't going to test the waters," Lobdell told USA Today. "I was just going to do a cannonball in the Super-verse.
"This is really what happens when a 27-year-old guy is behind a desk and he has to take instruction from a larger conglomerate with concerns that aren't really his own.
"Superman is arguably the most powerful person on the planet, but how long can he sit at his desk with someone breathing down his neck and treating him like the least important person in the world?"
> 'Superman' rights retained by Warner Bros, DC Comics
Lobdell joined the title with September's Superman #0. He is also currently working on Red Hood and the Outlaws and Teen Titans for the publisher.
The New 52 relaunch has brought various changes to Superman's status quo, including the dissolution of his relationship with Lane.
