Rumours that the Yougblood creator is bowing out of the industry emerged following a post on his Facebook account, but the artist has since taken to Twitter to clarify the situation.
"I am not permanently retired from comics. I'm too young," Liefeld wrote. "Momentarily, yes. Geez, let a guy enjoy some R and R.
"My mistake is that I don't give facebook comments the same weight as I do twitter rants. Lesson learned."
Liefeld previously caused a stir when he responded to a Facebook post from fellow artist Ethan Van Sciver suggesting he should draw a crossover between Youngblood's Badrock and Barack Obama.
"Ethan, I am retired from comics but you have my blessing, it would look great if you drew it," he said.
Liefeld departed DC Comics amid a firestorm of controversy, citing editorial interference among the contributory factors influencing his exit.
