Hank Kanalz, DC's senior vice president of digital, also revealed that print sales were up 12% in the same period.

He told CNET that Justice League #12 - which features a kiss between Superman and Wonder Woman - became the fastest digital issue to reach sales of 10,000, although digital sales figures are still not routinely released.

The boom in digital comics was revealed as part of DC's announcement that its monthly titles would now be available on Kindle Store, iBookstore and NOOK Store for Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble products.

Part of the boom has been attributed to DC's move to simultaneous digital and print releases during September 2011's New 52 relaunch.
