The scribe will take over from Duane Swierczynski and collaborate with current artist Romano Molenaar from issue #18 onwards, CBR has confirmed.
"Slowly but surely I was approached about other possible DC writing projects and, when I expressed that I really wanted to write something people wouldn't expect from me, DC editorial director Bobbie Chase asked me to write up my take on Birds of Prey," Zubkavich said.
Zubkavich went on to say that he hopes to bring the same "character/action balance" to the DC Comics titles that writers Gail Simone and Chuck Dixon have achieved in the past.
"Gail Simone and Chuck Dixon's best Birds of Prey issues had a wonderful sense of personality and camaraderie that went hand-in-hand with top-notch action and drama," he explained.
"I'm not here to retread stories that have been told before and there are distinct differences between the past and this new incarnation of the team, but I'm looking to keep that character/action balance at the core of the series because I feel that's what makes it such a special series."
Swierczynski's run on Birds of Prey concludes with February's issue #17.
