Eight graphic novels are in the running for the third year of the awards, which encourages reading in UK schools.

DC Comics tops the list with two titles - Brian Azzarello, Cliff Chiang and Tony Akins's Wonder Woman vol 1: Blood and Michael Green, Mike Johnson and Mahmud Asrar's Supergirl vol 1: Last Daughter of Krypton.
The newly-revived Valiant Comics' X-O Manowar: By the Sword has received a nod, as well as 2000 AD's Strontium Dog: The Life and Death of Johnny Alpha by comics veterans John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.
Image Comics' Peter Panzerfaust: The Great Escape, Yen Press' Soul Eater Not!: vol 1 and Classical Comics' Sweeney Todd are also in the running.
The Stan Lee Excelsior Awards, named after the Marvel Comics legend, are voted for by the students of participating schools.
