Dandy artist Charles Grigg dies, aged 97

British comics veteran Charles Grigg has died at the age of 97.

The Dandy artist passed away on the morning of Wednesday, December 4 shortly after celebrating his birthday, reports Blimey!.

Grigg worked as an engineer in the Midlands before becoming a freelance artist for DC Thomson.

His early work included the strip Charlie the Chimp.

He took over The Dandy's then-lead strip Korky the Cat in 1961 and drew it for the next 22 years.

His other strips included Foxy and Splodge for The Topper and The Red Wrecker, The Purple Cloud and The Umbrella Men serials in The Dandy.

Grigg entered semi-retirement 30 years ago, but continued to work, producing saucy seaside postcards for the Bamforth postcard company.
