Teaming up with scribe Marc Andreyko, the actor will contribute to the script for the next story arc of the IDW Publishing title.
The forthcoming plotline follows new vampire Jessica Hamby, who turns feral after being exposed to a contaminated blood substitute. McMillan's character Steve Newlin will make his comic debut in the story, alongside Hoyt Fortenberry, Terry Bellefleur and Arlene Fowler.
"It's fun because the comic really does feel like an extension of the show, which is terrific," McMillian told MTV. "Marc and I have made it our goal to have it feel just like that. We want the audience to pick up the comic and feel like they're getting a little extra show while they wait for season four."
Earlier this year, McMillian co-wrote Archaia Comics' Lucid in collaboration with fellow television star Zachary Quinto.
The second volume of IDW's True Blood comic kicks off in February 2011.
