Charlaine Harris - who wrote the original Sookie Stackhouse novels on which the television show is based - is collaborating with writer Christopher Golden on the project.
Cemetery Girl will tell the story of a woman who finds herself living in a graveyard with no memory of her past life, only the sense of a mysterious threat hanging over her.
Golden's previous work includes prose stories featuring Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Hellboy. He collaborated with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola on the illustrated novel Baltimore, or The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire.
Harris told NBC: "We're buddies, and I'm really looking forward to trying to collaborate with someone and looking forward to being in a different media.
"The publishing company that I've been with, Penguin, is going into graphic novels, so it's a great book with a very original concept. We're doing it in a three-book arc, and we are going to be working on it very soon. It should be out next year."
An artist is yet to be selected for the project.
Harris recently admitted surprise at the twist ending to season four of True Blood.
The author is planning to end the Sookie Stackhouse series with its 13th volume.
