Marvel's Joe Quesada announced at last weekend's New York Comic Con that the publisher will launch an ongoing series based on the Dexter books next year.
Jeff Lindsay, who penned the original novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter and its sequels, will write the series for the firm. An artist for the project is yet to be announced.
Darkly Dreaming Dexter, which tells the story of a serial killer vigilante who works as a blood splatter expert, was adapted for television by Showtime in 2006. The series is now in its sixth season, but has deviated from the novels.
Lindsay has since written five additional Dexter books. The latest entry in the series, Double Dexter, arrives in stores this week. The Marvel series will tie in with its continuity.
Marvel's ongoing Dexter series will debut in 2012.
