Bleeding Cool claims that Bryan Q Miller is working on a prose book which picks up after the events of the show's final season.
Smallville ended back in May this year after ten seasons. The series has already spawned a string of young adult novels and several comic book spinoffs.
Tom Welling, who portrays Clark Kent in the show, has previously expressed interest in reprising his role for a Smallville movie, but there is yet to be an official announcement on such a project.
Miller is best known for his DC Comics work, having served as writer on its Bat-Girl series prior to the publisher's 'New 52' relaunch.
The Smallville follow-up novel is yet to be officially announced.
