I've become a DW fan. Being in the US, episodes and specials are all behind so a much longer wait when Season 5 comes out this way. Oh well. I hope DT sticks around. He's why I watch the show. He's so talented. Love all the companions too. From Rose, Martha, Donna, and even Jack and Mickey.

I dont know about all of you out there, but I am grieving over the loss of Donna. She simply must come back. I have never watched the show and to my shame only watched the first show with her in it soley because of Catherine Tate, and I was correct to as she was BRILLANT. We need to start a BRING BACK DONNA campain. She is the perfect foil to Davids doctor. Its safe to say if she comes back I will be front and centre and totally transfixed to my tv. If they need a plot to work out how, then she was listening at the door and heard the doctor explain to her family and then she made it easy on the doctor by pretending she had forgotten it all. And it was her mums phone she was using, (which her mum did notice but said nothing). Yes I have given this major thought, BRING BACK DONNA. PLEASE

In response to Ann-Marie's comment, as a teen, I think that the series is amazing. I'm afraid that the amount of times 'Awesome!' has passed my lips at a ridiculously high pitch would be difficult to count at this point. I love this show to bits. The actors and the writing stay wonderful throughout the series and I'm waiting with bated breath for the Christmas special, as are my friends who are now hooked on the show as well. This is definitely a different experience when compared to the old Who, but that might be my prejudice against black and white TV speaking :) The people who made and are making this show are using everything at their disposal to make us laugh, make us think and sometimes to make us cry and I think the results are amazing. (Also everyone on the show is ridiculously hot which doesn't hurt a bit)

I thought that it was fantastic my whole family loved to bits even though there were some tears in the series but i thought that catherine and david haved don a great job well done. russell

I absolutely loved this seasons offerings. David Tennant is brilliant as The Doctor, and I was very happy to see Catherine Tate's performances silence her detractors who were sure that she would ruin the show. She was incredible, and I am hugely disappointed that she will not be returning. She will be missed. My only complaint about this series is that there aren't nearly enough episodes per season to begin with, but having to wait until 2010 before the next season begins is downright criminal - or at least it should be. Russel T. Davies did an exceptional job at the helm. As shocked and saddened I was when I learned he was leaving the show, it was a treat to hear that Steven Moffet would be taking over RTD's duties. The anticipation makes it even harder to have to wait so long for the shows return. I can't wait!

I thought that Catherine Tate was the best companion since Romana, and that the early episodes were very good (up to Forset of the Dead). However, the remaining stories were disapointing in my view, culminating in the dreadful three-part finale. Davros was good (but not up to Michael Wisher's definitive portrayal). Sadly, another inconsistant season.

season 4 was great and I can't WAIT for the xmas special
Anne-Marie, Florida on July 21st, 2008
I was hugely excited by the build up to the series 4 finale and I think it was well worth the wait. My main problem with Series 4 is that it’s over; boo hoo. Yeah, I thought the gathering of Torchwood and K9 was a bit gimmicky. However it also built a more convincing feeling of threat from the Daleks because we felt a broader group of our friends were threatened. As for those who are bothered by references to relaxed sexual mores, they should remember that Dr Who involves cultures from outer space and people from a futuristic earth. Surely part of the fun of science fiction is exploring how these societies might be different from our own. I agree with the script writers who think that in the centuries to come earth society will have less constrained ‘quaint’ sexual categories. For example, the old classic Dr. Who series are already dated by their portrayal of women as tag-along burdens who lack initiative and guts. Rose, Martha and Donna are much more realistic – and reflect a variety of personalities too, which is fab. I’d be very interested to read reports about what pre-teens and teens think of the series (in their own words, unfiltered by adults). After all it is targetted at them.

This series was great.. i loved Donna, how she was the only companion (in the time I've seen Doctor Who) that didn't fall in love with the Doctor. I loved the "Doctor's Daughter" and i hope the writers use this as another reason as to bring her back for future involvement. Rose was great in the series, always has been. Hate the fact that Doctor Who will not be returning next year, as i love it. Can't wait for the soecials, and the 5th series. xx
Alexr, Glasgow on July 20th, 2008
Sorry... But how can you not hold that bit of affection for Rose Tyler? She was there to help bring back Dr Who and it would have been nothing without her for that first series. I really enjoyed seeing her again, though the ending with the whole 'other Doctor' thing was a bit daft but still, remembering that much of the show is aimed at children thats a fair way to play. Overall the series was brilliant. The Library story being the highlight but none of the others were lacking in anyway except perhaps 'Turn Left'. Well done Russel and hope SM can keep up the good work started by the pair.

This show just keeps getting better - i have shed many a tear while watching series 4 - from the humour of the unicorn and the wasp to the heart breaking finale - catherine tate has been consistantly excellent and David Tennant continues to entertain with his energy and enthusiasm, he may be the best Doctor yet!
Geoff T on July 16th, 2008
Just BRILLIANT in a nut shell basicaly. Catherine Tate proved to be a great character than her sketches. I thought Iwould not able to take her seriously but she was Such a strong Character equal to the Doctor. David Tennant Just gets better & better, I know there will be a time when David moves onto pastures new. I personaly think that David took over form Chris Eccleson was brilliant, both Actors able to merge into the role with passion & Kalibur

dr who series 4 was fantastic, everyone who slated this series and catherine haven't got a clue what they are talking about .David and catherine were brillant to together she bought a different dynamic to the show this has been by far the funniest of all four series (the unicorn and the wasp in particular) and the finale was phenomenal . I can't believe we have to wait till 2010 for series 5,oh well the specials will have to keep me going till then. Anyone who insults martha is plain stupid cos freema agyeman is great ha !
Mark Davies - Cardiff on July 15th, 2008
Probably the best season overall and to the criticsm levelled at it sometimes certain people lose sight that its a family programme not the west wing or the sopranos. Russell T Davies has done a fantastic job (certain comments in the press towards him of late stink of hompophobia) and i look forward to Stephen Moffatt doing the series in 2010. Hopefully David Tenant will stay for that and his tenth doctor legacy complete.
Lara london on July 15th, 2008
It was a good series but catherine tate was a **** companion .The best was Martha Jones because freema agyeman was a wonderful actress and catherine tate can't beat that Bring back Martha jones I have to wait two years for doctor who two comeback
Kath, Rexicoricofalipitorious on July 14th, 2008
Loved this series. However the finale (though emotional) was disappointing. I think the main reason for this was that it was so rushed trying to squeeze in all of the old characters. Why bring in Torchwood and Cpt Jack if they're not going to do anything? I think Mickey and Jackie were also quite pointless, though I was glad to see them. Martha was never a great character and I think if all this had been cut back on, the Doctor/Rose reunion would have been much better. Davros was fantastic, as I'm a younger fan and have never seen any Classic Who, he was everything I expected and more. The evil laugh was chilling. I've always wanted a happy ending for Rose and the Doctor, but I found the "human" Doctor thing very cheesy, and a let down as the true Doctor never made his feelings for Rose known. David Tennant was superb again all series. I adored series 1 with Eccleston and I didn't think they could get better than him. Tennant is fantastic. Catherine Tate exceeded all of my (to be honest, quite low) expectations for Donna Noble and Donna has been my favourite companion. Her personality was such a refreshing change from the repetitive adoration and crushes on the Doctor. They were true friends and that was the end of it. That's why the relationship worked so well. CT really showed her acting ability - especially in Planet of the Ood, one of the best episodes of the series. My final mention has to go to Bernard Cribbins. What a fantastic actor. Wilf was a wonderful character. Very sad we have to wait 2 years for the next full series, but I hope that with Stephen Moffat taking over, it will be worth the wait.
Mark, Southampton on July 14th, 2008
Also agree with most of that, tho' I can't say I'll miss Catherine Tate who - despite turning in a couple of a decent performances - overracted from the start. Still, the penultimate scene of the series - at the Nobles' - was truly memorable, and, I agree, ole Cribbins was superb. A truly heartfelt performace, rather than fake pathos; then I guess, he's had the experience.
Brendan Surrey on July 14th, 2008
The one over riding impression from this series is the escalation of the shouting and over-scoring. The "finale" with the ludicrously pompous TO...BE...CONTINUED (we know!) thumped on the end of part one was a deus ex machina over the top mess. Characters from all the franchises all mixed up together, some doing nothing to progress the "plot". If every week the story is of such epoch shattering BIGness Who will get old much sooner than it deserves to. David Tennant's teflon reaction to any threat and the gurning isn't helping matters. As Michael Winner says "calm down dear".

doctor who is my all-time favourite show (love the classic series as well) and i thinki this series, despite starting off relatively slow, has probably become the best so far. The Stolen Earth imo is the single greatest episode of the new series so far. Journey's End was still brilliant, but after TSE, my expectations were a little higher, especially considering it was 20 minutes longer. and in that final 20 minutes, it did start to get a little corny and depressing as such, with it seeming as if RTD was quickly using plot devices to hurridely finish things off. but like i said, the episode was still brilliant (especially the return of Davros), the story on the whole is probably the best of the new series so far, and as i said earlier probably the best series overall so far. 10/10 P.S. to all the people who said the reason that the Daleks wanted to destroy reality wasn't explained enough, the Supreme one CLEARLY said "WE SHALL BECOME THE ONLY BEINGS IN EXISTANCE" there. how clearer can you get??

I have loved Dr. Who for a long time. Tom Backer has been my favorite for many years, but I must say that David Tennant has done a great job as the doctor and i will miss his character when he regenorates. This has been a grea season.
James, Ascot on July 14th, 2008
Certainly the worst of the revival. It all just seemed so 'dumbed down'. To many things happened due to convenience and some of the acting was just pitiful. Martha is a terrible actress, and as for her mother.... Too preachy, too dumbed down and too CGI driven. best episodes were Library, Doctors daughter and the one with fat children. Moffat writes the most compelling and cerebral episodes, lets hope we have more of those. Oh and a campanion who is not a soppy lovesick 'girl' would be nice. I was hopeful that CT would be a nice change of pace, but she was soooo SHOUTY!!! *sigh*
Chris, London on July 14th, 2008
I'm a Doctor Who fan and found this series very disappointing. The Donna Noble character was a disgrace - Catherine Tate isn't an actress, she just plays a minor variation of herself. Some of the scripts were very weak - in particular that 'Midnight' episode and the 'fantastic' plot devices of the final two-parter. . Doctor Who is a kid's programme, which is mainly watched by adults. In this episode, the plots became so kiddee ordieted, so innane and silly and irrational, lack of suspense, that the thing became poor TV in many episodes.
Georgiana, Sheffield, UK on July 14th, 2008
I think all the actors in this finalie just made it spectacular and was so worth watching, the emotions they brought off, especially Catherine Tate she did the best!! and am goin to miss Donna Noble character the life and soul of the show, can't wait for the christmas special also when it returns for a full season in 2010, aren't we so lucky, I just Love David Tennant he's a genius, His Part well suits him as the doctor, I can't see anybody else been the Doctor now, but have to say I miss Christopher Eccelston too=) Sheffield Loves Its Doctor=) Rusell T Davis Did A Wonderfull Job he made the show what it was set out to become A Success=) 9.4 million viewers on that Saturdayy Night I was speechless when I heard how many people tuned in to watch=) David Tennant Wow Megaa Woahh! Catherine Tate So Funny and pretty gunna miss her, but wish her good luck for the future=) See the show At Christmas=)

This series has been my favourite. It has been the busiest yet, what with the Sontarans, UNIT, Davros, Daleks and the cross over with Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, and still the series managed to all boil down to the Doctor and Donna. Superbly played by David Tennant and Catherine Tate, I have really enjoyed the chemistry that the two had, and Donna was a welcome release from all companions being in love with the Doctor. I loved every second of seeing her as a companion and was almost crying when he Journey came to and End. The much hyped return of Davros did not dissapoint, with Julian Bleach playing the part splendidly and could easily be seen playing it again. Noteable performances also from Bernad Cribbins (make the guy a sir now!) and Christopher Ryan but of course David Tennant deserves the most praise. His best series yet as the Doctor, the Scottish born actor proves the part was made for him yet again, being able to add such depth to a charactor as much of a mystery to him as everyone else. DT could stay on as long as Tom Baker and still be wanted as the Doctor. Well done to all concerned, series 4 was brilliant and Russel T Davis really stepped down in style. I agree Steven Moffat has a very tough act to follow, but if David stays on board, with Catherine Tate, Bleach and more crossovers, I don't think he'll have much of a problem pulling off an amazing season 5.
Chris, Earth on July 13th, 2008
I've watched the Doctor for around 30 years. Like most fans, I have my favourite assistants. We get to chose from such characters as K-9, SJS, Leela, Nyssa or Jo Grant. Yet none, in my eyes, compare with Donna Noble. Astonishing acting, despite the early criticism, has won the day. Ms Tate, you were absolutely brilliant. Thank you.

A fantastic season once again. Will certainly miss the full season in 2009. will have to get the dvd's out again and watch them all once more

Once again a fantastic series. I can't understand the carping against RTD that seems to be creeping in to some places. Yes, the quality varied slightly more this year, but let's not forget the outright miracle he's performed in bringing back and maintaining the show. Remember how bad things had become; Bertie Bassett, that's all I'm saying. My favourite bits? Tennant continues to shine. Ms Tate was superb pretty much throughout. Stephen Moffat's writing brilliant once again (although to be hypercritical some of his cliff hanger moments have been getting a little samey). For me Midnight was the scariest episode since Ark In Space- what great performances. But there were the occasional duff bits. For bad points, we need go no further than the UNIT story. The script was Doctor Who by numbers from the seventies and totally failed to build tension in this writer's front room. And it was a VERY rare off-day for the design team. The noughties Sontarans looked as if they were wearing babygrows; I was put in mind of an army of George Daweses. But hey- scifi of this quality at prime time on a Saturday night? How lucky are we?
john t from London on July 13th, 2008
i watched this series with great expectations, but it was really awful! the acting of tennant and tate was the worse thing, and cribbens for knighthood?? you must be joking i've seen better actors in home and away!!!! And even the stories were stupid and too far unbelievable! the plots were crap, i mean two dr whos? how stupid? One was talking and doing, the other you saw his back a lot, he didnt say much, had 1 heart and snogged rose!!! and got dropped off at the seaside!! what utter crap....the writer just put a lot of crap out of his head and mixed it up to make the series. the ending of the last episode was cringingly embarassing when they all went smily and lovey dovey, get rid of tennant he's the worse doctor EVER.....
Hannah, Berkshire on July 13th, 2008
Overall I thought this was the best series so far since it's revival. Catherine Tate defied my expectations, being the best companion so far, much more of a challenge to the Doctor and bringing so much emotional depth - her demise back to her pre-Doctor self was utterly heart-wrenching thanks to Tate and Tennant's performances. Bernard Cribbins character was a joy to watch! The finale could have been better but that's always the case - IMO the best episodes are always mid-season, often more story-based than action, which I suppose is needed for finales. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable journey :)

Since I started watching Doctor Who three years ago, it's always been exciting. I'm not sure what was different with this series, but I didn't get the same thrill as I usually do. Last year I couldn't wait for the christmas special, but this year I just don't really care. To be truthful, this series was a bit of a dissapointment.
Thawn, Norwich on July 13th, 2008
I thought Season (or Series) 4 was very good and I thought it had some Excellent Stories in and David Tennant was on Top Form as The Doctor. I thought it Catherine Tate did well as Donna Noble. It was also nice to see MArtha and Rose again as well as the others from Torchwood and Sarah Jane Smith Adventures. Also I thought it was good to see the Sontarans again. Also in the Final Story bringing back Davros was great to see. Also good to see Alex Kingston in "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead as it added an extra dimention to the series. But all in all a very good series and looking forward to the Christmas special.

Does this change from RTD to SM mean we will finally get rid of Rose Tyler? I hope so. Doctor Who should be more than one companion and the fact that for the last 4 seasons Rose has been in or hinted at has gone sour. Did RTD really think that no one could carry the show other than Rose? Season 4 was carried by the billiant CT but over shadowed by the Rose obsession. And really, why does RTD think the Doctors love for his companion is any different than his love for Jo Grant, Sarah Jane or even Tegan?!!! I enjoyed the 4th Season. It had it's high and lows! Finally the Red Dalek makes an appearance, although it was to short!!! Going forward, why do we have to wait for season 5 for 2 years? If DT wants to do other things, hand over the reins. Stop pampering him!!!!
David, Hull on July 13th, 2008
Are you kidding me? Doctor Who is one of the greatest series of all time. Season 4 was a road accident of storytelling. With the exception of the Moffat 2 parter and certain spine chilling moments from the final few, this season was a total disaster. Mediocrity is being kind. There were absolutely no "classic" episodes until Moffat got his pen out. Unlike the previous seasons scattered with gems throughout. The writing was weak. The cast, solid. Bernard Cribbings was amazing but couldn't save this season from being the low point since it came back. Bring on the Moffat era. If not for Davros, Davies would have cleaned his Dr Who slate with a big whimper. Speaking of Davies, notice he waited til the end of his run before he started attacking the fan base. Calculated to wait after the ratings for the finale.
Karen, Devon on July 13th, 2008
I loved this series on the whole. Donna was brilliantly played, I think she will be sadly missed. Bernard Cribbins is an acting genius and has never really had the recognition he deserves - so yeah a knighthood please!! I loved him in the Railway Children.
Viv - Austin, Tx on July 13th, 2008
I've been a long time fan of the show since I first discovered it in the early 80s. I've seen it go through some truly bad patches over the years. I'll have to admit there were a LOT of great moments in this "series" and I liked most of the episodes in general - the Library stories were fantastic and clever. I sincerely hope we see more of River Song. "Partners in Crime" was pretty funny in spots, far to many fat jokes to "stomach" more that the rare rewatch though. "The Doctor's Daughter" has potential for future stories, but in all, to me, it just felt "disconnected" and with not as much depth as there could have been. In too many spots it felt forced and in others it was like watching an elementary school Christmas pageant. Not David or Catherine's fault they only perform what they are given, but the directors could have done MUCH better. They had two first class performers and it seemed as though they didn't quite know what to do with them. AND as somebody else said "Don't get me started" on the whole "Mary Sue" based 'Rose gets herself a Doctor business' - the "domestics" (fan fiction writers who continually and nauseatingly have the Doctor and Rose raising a family in the TARDIS) must be about to explode with delight. Now they can write all the Doctor/Rose porn they want (ICK!!!) Purely RTD's fault in my opinion since he promoted it and personally I'll be glad to see the back of him. Don't get me wrong, I applaud the fact that he got the show back on the air, but he's obviously running out of ideas and the shows he wrote this season are stale and unimaginative.
Ian, Leicester on July 13th, 2008
A very good SERIES (not season, thank you) all round, with few disappointments along the way. Catherine Tate defied her critics and held her own, Tennant reaffirmed his hold on The Doctor for a few more years yet. Highlights include "Midnight", "Turn Left", "The Doctors Daughter", "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead" and of course "The Stolen Earth". However, after such a big build up, the series finale failed to deliver yet again. Though it was filled with great moments, RTD resorted to plot devices bordering on silliness (yes, the Daleks would house a control panel that could destroy the entire race in the same place as their prisoners) and baseless romance (don't even get me started on Rose and the 'other' Doctor). RTD undoubtedly ended on a high, but you can finally breathe a sigh of relief that Moffat will be taking over.
