ABC is reportedly developing a new version of acclaimed 1980s alien invasion drama V.
According to Variety, Scott Peters, who co-created The 4400 has written a script that will be produced by Warner Bros TV.
Peters spoke of his excitement at the new project: "Whenever I mention V to anybody, they still have a lot of good memories about the original movie and series. Everybody has that imagery of their uniforms, or the visitor eating a hamster. It’s a science fiction icon and too good to pass up."
The characters in the new adaptation will be original creations and focus on a Homeland Security agent called Erica Evans and her troubled son, who soon discovers the grim truth that lies beneath the skin of supposedly benevolent alien visitors to the planet.
V creator Kenneth Johnson has previously struggled to secure funding for a sequel to the original 1983 mini-series, which scored an outstanding 40% viewing share its finale in the United States and secured impressive ratings on ITV the following year.
