heroes is one of the best t.v programmes around and if heroes was axed i would never watch T.V ever again i mean there is no life without heroes!
Danielle Uk on November 26th, 2008
i absolutely love heroes and it definitely isnt losing its power because i have never been this hooked up before into heroes and this is decent television which people actually are hooked into like no one is that hooked into programmes like heroes. I can't see life without heroes it is really good and interesting.

Season 2 wasn't so good, but it was effected by the strikes at the time. Season 3 is great but is not as original I see ideas from a loads of films thrown together. Loads of episodes left cant wait

Things initially went wrong for Heroes with that dire 'feelgood' first season finale. Sending Hiro back in time for season 2 was a real yawn fest and like many, I switched off and concentrated on 'Supernatural' etc. That said, thanks to the BBC's iplayer, I decided to watch the premier of Heroes eason 3 and I was pulled back into it again. Beautifully shot with complex stories shooting forwards in time - the series is pretty much back to it's creative best (and quite unmatched by most shows -especially here in the UK where our drama is lacking something). I'm surprised that the current season of Heroes has so many critics and fans have to worry now that two pivital (and talented) writers have been sacked in a kneejerk reaction by studio execs. They have sadly condemned the series to early cancellation and most people should lament such a decision. Hurrah for the DS article because it was actually absolutely spot on.

I think Heroes is still going great. I think any numbers loss are down to the writers strike on season 2. Season 3 seems to be going strong so I dont know what all the fuss is about. Even if the show has lost some viewers its still got loads morethan most shows.

according to me S3 is the best so far.the story is developing briliantly and the complexity gives the much needed hunger to wait for the next episode.

Why do people listen to these so called 'critics' ,they're hardly ever right. Heroes is going from strength to strength. Ignore the critics and naysayers, just watch and enjoy heroes. Series 3 is very intrigueing so far,I really don't know what is going to happen next. Long may Heroes continue.

This series will be axed within the year, not surprising it's a pile of overhyped rubbish and the audiences have now become wise to it. The first season was padded out with episodes where nothing happened, the much touted finale was a damp squid and a real letdown, The second season was just dire in the extreme and now the third season is going nowhere, People are bored of this show. I won't miss it if it is axed, put it out of it's misery once and for all.

I've finally given up, the flashbacks, the plot twists, it's all beyond me.

I'm loving this season of Heroes, loved topless Sylar in tonights BBC 3 episode!! On a more serious note, although the plot is getting quite complex now I am managing to keep up with it and after every episode I get the whole "Grrrrrr!" thing when an episode finishes because I want to see the next one. This just tells me that its in no way loosing its magic.
Hank the DJ on November 19th, 2008
I forgave them for series 2. The writers' strike and all that and I've been pleasantly surprised by series 3. But I really don't appreciate my loyalty being rewarded with an insult. Call me thick, but what's so wrong with watching tv shows on tv?
Sarah, Canada on November 19th, 2008
Tim Kring may need to realize that it's not people downloading it or anything that's the problem, it's the steadily declining writing, seemingly uncontrollable retcon, and destruction of established character traits. It's getting harder and harder to handle it every week @_@.

As a Heroes-crazed person right up until the start of S3 it REALLY pains me to say this. I’m not liking S3 AT ALL. :-( A very large part of this is due to the ludicrous idea of Sylar Petrelli. Sylar was my favourite character in S1 – one of the best villains on TV. Now they’re rewriting him far too quickly, trying to make him “good”. “The hunger” is the worst idea. Not only does it give the once terrifying scalper an EXCUSE for what he was doing, but for some inexplicable reason it also gives Peter the urge to look at brains! Um, why? S3 has also made me REALLY dislike characters I previously really enjoyed watching – namely Mohinder and Maya, whose storyline has so much badness in it I’ll just seethe quietly to myself rather than take up most of this site! Arthur Petrelli. THE most eagerly anticipated character. And what do they do? Make him into yet another cold-hearted meglomaniac. Genius. Out of the three seasons’ Big Bads he’s actually the worst. At least Sylar and Adam had complexity and depth. And then there’s Adam :-( What a waste!! I realise Tim Kring thinks S2 needs to be expunged (Bob, Maury, Monica, the virus, Maya - all not lasting very long, if featured at all) – but why bring back one of the best and most intriguing characters only to kill him off within three episodes?? There are other issues I have with S3, but those are my main gripes. It’s too fast, there’s not enough explanation as to what is going on, and (worst of all) far too many characters are being re-written (Sylar, Elle, Maya, Angela, Mohinder, Hiro) just for the shock factor.
Laura, London on November 18th, 2008
I think I may have been the only person who loved Season 2. This season has been incredibly on and off, I hated them killing off Adam Monroe, not only the potential of a great character but the loss of the great David Anders and of course the dreadful Mohinder storyline. But I love the Matt and Daphne storyline and Cristine Rose has been amazing this season. It's by far the weakest season so far, but then perhaps I am still bitter about Adam's death.

heroes is in no way struggling, for me this series is the best yet. I always used to like syler and now that he's almost good i like him even more. i hope the writers keep up the good work, i have no complaints about this series (i just hope peter gets his powers back!)
John Australia on November 18th, 2008
I think heroes is better then ever, even though its not when i imagined it to be.. My expectation would be developing each character into a hero in which the pinnacle would be sylar vs petrelli in a 1 hour finale ba)ttle ( very cliche i know but very exciting .. I have been waiting for the final confrontation for 3 seasons though now it seems it wont happen.
Taz, London on November 18th, 2008
After the rubbish first season and the even worse second, this show is dying a slow death. Hype will only get you so far and american audiences are coming to realise this show really isn't very good. The ratings have slumped in the states and i think this will be axed within a year. Sorry but bad shows get axed and this show is one of the worse i have ever seen.
Poppy, Bath on November 18th, 2008
Season 3 is my favourite! More complex characterization & intricate storylines make for compelling viewing. The development of SYLAR's character is brilliant!
Mark, Wales on November 17th, 2008
I think there are some problems with plot holes and general stupidity with the characters (Arthur using mind control on Angela but not using it on Nathan in the past for example) but I am still enjoying the series and things look set to really pick up.
GabethePilot - UK on November 17th, 2008
Main problem is that it's become far to complicated to follow - it's only worth watching now, to stare at scrummy-Claire; the rest of the time, my eyes just glaze over !
Alanna. London on November 17th, 2008
I still enjoy watching Heroes but I miss the subtlety of the 1st Season. It feels a bit like a soap opera now. The twist's feel forced. I liked the build up and the anticipation.
Liam, Keighley on November 17th, 2008
Those who have attacked the 2nd and 3rd series obviously have no knowledge of decent television. My advice? Do it yourselves. It really hasn't changed a bit, it's still top telly and there's no point in saying otherwise, as it's just wrong. It's the same with Lost, people who fell off the show are also the ones who'd watch every now and then. I think Heroes suffers the same fate. Of course there's the strong crowd who watch every episode religiously. But there's the tv critics who will watch one or two, jump back on later, not understand it and simply presume it to be bad. Well they're wrong. Does anyone else get sick of actually good tv shows getting criticised for no apparent reason other than journalistic stupidness?
Steve Kelley, Sevenoaks on November 17th, 2008
Lets be fair Maya bound and gagged was a let off for such an annoying and pathetic character. Why was she brought back? Was it to create a spin-off series after falling pregnant with Mohinders child - Fly 2?
Steve Kelley, Sevenoaks on November 17th, 2008
As a Marvel comic reader and SCI-fi fan, Heroes hits the spot and for an American series an intelligent and realistic take on a world with super powers. Season 3 shows that Spiderman's Uncle was correct when he said "With great power comes great responsibility". Humans are 3D whilst comics aren't and heroes shows that there is a fine line between hero and villian

I'm still loving Heroes - I love how they have turned the baddies into the goodies and vice versa! The ambiguity is brilliant and more realistic of human nature, choice and the difficulties life throws at you. I don't understand the criticism aimed at the show...it's puzzling...don't take it to heart Heroes people we still love you!
Jonathan on November 17th, 2008
I can't believe you're defending this show - the first series was great but with the third series its like they've gotten a fanfic writer to write the actual show. It really is terrible.

shouldnt the question be "when did heroes lose itspower" the answer is the season 1 finale. what an awful show its turnt out to be which is a shame as it had good potential
RD England on November 17th, 2008
YES. It's interesting that the article mentions X-men because that is what the series has become. The reason season 1 is the best is because it neatly underplayed the whole super-hero thing by giving the characters vulnerabilities and real day-to-day probems. Now in season 3 it's quickly become the bad x-men against the good x-men! Perhaps this is a major reason why a large number of viewers have turned away. Who needs X-men with a smaller budget?

On the matter of Claire the villain and particularly Sylar the hero: I don't think the problem is with their roles changing (in fact, I personally love that kind of plot) but rather with the ham-handedness with which the changes have been brought about. With his motivations and backstory retconned, it feels like the character of Sylar has just been shoved every which way at the mercy of the convoluted plot with no regard for internal consistency. That said, there are still things that I enjoy about the show, particularly Hiro's, Matt's and Daphne's storylines.
OJ, Manchester on November 17th, 2008
Are you watching the same show I am? This show was one of the most fresh and innovative productions on television to something that is pretty much a joke! I'm still watching it, with the hope that it will return to it's former glory but even that hope is starting to dwindle. The problems with the third season are very much apparent, we are way past the half way mark on this story arc as the second half of season 3 is volume 4: Fugitives. So a lot of the criticisms that have been put forward should not be discounted. I'm only going to post about the two that are really bugging me in this season, I'm all for moral ambiguity but in this season they are all pretty much acting out of character. What was set up in the previous seasons has been pretty much being torn down. Case in point, Sylar as a Patrelli. This makes no sense at all as pretty much all Sylar's encounters with the Company previously would indicate that this plot point was never originally planned. Why in the first season would the Company act in the way it did if they knew who Sylar was and his potential? Why didn't Angela Patrelli step forward when the caught Sylar after the cheerleader incident? Really doesn't make sense and finally there was never an indication of "The Hunger" previously, The first season portrayed Sylar as a cold blooded killer with no qualms about the moral impact. My second point is the time traveling, all that's done has made continuity issues for the more eagle-eyed viewer. I could go on for ages but I'll just go with one example Arthur Patrelli, we were told in the first season that he was depressed and he committed suicide, this was a plot point as it did put a strain on Nathan and Peter's relationship when Peter thought he could fly but in a recent episode we see Arthur's fate played out in a completely different way. I'm going to finish of to say that the break neck pace of the story as been at the cost of the characterization (sp?), I hope this show gets good again soon. This comic fan has fingers crossed

I think the main problem with this season, for me anyway, is that I can't relate to the characters anymore. I liked Season 1 because they were, as was advertised, ordinary people who could do special things. That aspect was appealing. The problem with Season 3 is that it focuses way, way too much on the Petrelli family, and Arthur as the main villain is rather boring as he's written as a one-dimensional character. Other characters, like Hiro, Claire, Peter, and Mohinder, have become more unlikeable. It seems all the heroes do nowadays is look for trouble. Shame.
Deb, Australia on November 17th, 2008
I'm in complete agreement with your whole article. Heroes is not flawless, but no television show is, and certainly the mythical first season was not without it's faults on occasion (Matt's marital drama, anyone?). This season has me well engaged, and I for one am very comfortable with the direction this season is taking. The whole Sylar thing doesn't stike me as a "retcon" at all (my god, I'm so sick of that word): remember the room covered with "forgive me", and "sin" etc? He didn't become a psycho overnight, and I'm glad they're explaining it. Similarly, the idea of him as a Petrelli really works for me, because of the hints back in S1 regarding the similarity of his and Peter's powers. I'm also loving most of the new characters (I adore Daphne), and I'm invested in the whole Petrelli drama. So, I must admit I find the level of criticism quite bizarre, and very disappointing. If only because it bodes ill for the show as a whole, since some people allow their own opinions to be influenced by those of the critics. Not everyone of course, and I respect that some people just aren't interested anymore. And, yes, some of the time-inconsistencies are irritating. But it's still a highly original and entertaining show, and I'll be extremely bitter if it's run is cut short.
Nathan, London on November 16th, 2008
Really think this season has been fantastic and love the ambiguities it's throwing up in respect of the characters, the decisions they are facing and the shades of light and darkness / good and evil. Long may Heroes continue if they keep up the present quality as this really is a "must see" for me and there are very few TV series that have that. Maybe us Brits are just a bit more sophisticated than our American brothers and sisters and appreciate "complex" plot developments and unexpected character developments ;-)
An American on November 16th, 2008
I still think heroes is great... throughout the show I've felt there have been dull sections, and I just think this is one of them. In other words, it will probably pick up again soon.

Heroes is my joint first fave show on tv (with the whoniverse trilogy) i love sci fi shows because they are incredible. This series especially has so many twists its fantastic.

I think this season has been good, clearly a definete improvement on last season.

I agree completely with the author! I really don't understand all the criticism for this season. Is amazing: fast pace, twist, character building, action, a lot of answer from past season questions... I simply love it!
