Joanna Lumley has revealed that she is desperate to star in Doctor Who.

The 61-year-old actress played a female Doctor in a 1999 Comic Relief special, but admitted that she would love to tackle the role again.

David Tennant became the tenth Doctor in 2005 and has portrayed the iconic Time Lord ever since.

Lumley told the Radio Times: "They've never approached me. I must say I'm sitting here on my hands bitterly waiting for something to come through the letter box. But they've never come near me, so I guess it's not on the cards."
