Maria is distressed about the state of her dad, but Sarah Jane tells her there is always a chance he will be saved. The stone statue of Alan is analysed by the computer Mr Smith and it is revealed that he is still alive, but quickly becoming fossilised. The process will be complete within 90 minutes.
Sarah Jane returns to St Agnes Abbey to try to rescue Luke and Clyde, although she is soon recaptured and the nuns, in between chanting 'serve the Gorgon', decide that she will be the perfect host body for the Gorgon to enter once the portal is open.
While looking for her daughter, Maria's mum sees a statue of her estranged husband in Sarah Jane's premises and believes that the woman is obsessed with her former man. She spills her heart open to the statue about her true feelings for him, but doesn't notice the tear streaming down his cheek.
Meanwhile, Maria has returned to Lavender Lawns retirement home and consults Mrs Nelson-Stanley, although her Alzheimer's is an obstacle at first. The old lady soon imparts some advice and Maria turns up at the Abbey with a mirror in a bid to save the day. The Gorgon looks at its own reflection and is turned to stone, with the nuns restored to their former, non-evil selves.
The talisman is used to return Alan back to flesh, although he has no recollection of recent events. Maria tries to use the talisman to cure Nelson-Stanley of her illness, but although it doesn't work she does have a flashback of her beloved husband Edgar.
