The consequences for the team are deep, with Owen losing his cynicism and Gwen having no recollection of her fiancé Rhys. She believes him to be an intruder in her flat and pulls a gun on him, although Jack arrives on the scene and tries to calm her down. Owen subsequently tells Toshiko that he loves her, but she calls him a "small rodent" instead of reciprocating.
Jack's buried memories about his brother Gray come to the fore, as a flashback to his origins in the Boeshane Peninsula reveals that his brother disappeared during an enemy attack and his father was killed. When Ianto grows suspicious, Adam implants a memory inside him that makes him believe that he brutally killed three women.
When Ianto breaks down and confesses his crimes, Jack doesn't believe him despite the lie detector suggesting that he is telling the truth. Jack reviews CCTV footage and observes Adam implanting the memories. However, when Jack pulls a gun on the intruder the others don't believe him.
Jack has his way and places Adam in a cell, where he confesses that the unique memories of the Torchwood team attracted him to the Hub. The team all take a pill that erases the previous 48 hours worth of memories, during which time Adam had first entered the Hub. Jack is initially reluctant to do so himself, as Adam tells him that memories of his own father will be lost again, but he opts to swallow the pill regardless. This effectively wipes out Adam.
Later, Jack picks up Adam's puzzle box and opens it, only to find sand within - a reminder of the landscape of the Boeshane Peninsula.
