
The show's producers fear Glenister could be involved in a crash if he drives his red Audi and have replaced him with stunt drivers.
The 45-year-old said: "We have become a commodity now, so they let us do very little driving."
Glenister also revealed that co-stars Marshall Lancaster and Dean Andrews are forbidden from taking the wheel.
"When we first did Life On Mars I had the Cortina.
"I did quite a lot of driving in the first series and come the second series a bit less. Before, they didn’t care if we injured ourselves. Now I am a bit precious."
The Life On Mars spin-off debuted last week to strong ratings on BBC One.
