Episode Eight

Alex visits Arthur Layton in prison on the eve of the car bomb that she fears will kill her parents, but he offers no information. She then tells her police colleagues that an informant has warned her about the blast, giving specific information that leads to Caroline Price and her husband, who is a barrister representing experienced bomb-maker Layton.

A trip to a Gay Pride march sees Alex take charge of a pink tank and destroy a car owned by her uncle, which she believes will be the one driven by her parents. Alex also visits her father to warn him, although he fends off her suggestions.

Lord Scarman visits the police station as part of his report into policing methods. Gene makes Chris pose as a criminal in order to feed Scarman stories about how great the treatment is. He is later joined by many marchers from Gay Pride, along with Alex's parents; she believes prison is the only safe place for them, so she plants cocaine in their house and arrests them.

The next morning, unknown to Alex, Gene releases her parents. It is too late to save them from the blast, which the pair both witness. It emerges that Alex's father was responsible for the bomb, having decided to kill his family after discovering his wife's affair with Evan. A video confession is destroyed by Gene, at the request of Evan, to prevent young Alex from ever finding out the horrible truth. Meanwhile, Shaz is released from hospital and the team have a party in Luigi's restaurant to celebrate.
