What's in store for Linc in the new season?
"Lincoln is the spark to the show. He’s the guy who brings the grunt, the male testosterone to Prison Break, so he’s going to do what he keeps doing. He’s an angry dude and he’s just trying to get back to his kid."
What's the underlying storyline of the new season?
"The new season is similar to the movie Ronin. We’re being forced by the government to work for them – and if we don’t work for them, then they’ll send us back to prison. They’ve promised the troop that if we get the stuff done, we will be given our freedom. Depending on how long they want the show to last, we won’t be having our freedom for a very long time!"
Are the guys still on the run?
"Yes, we’re still on the run. We’re being blackmailed and pigeon-holed. It’s a catch-22 situation. If we don’t work for the government, we’re heading back to jail."
What else is new this season?
"A few characters have gone – but there are some new characters, including one played by Michael Rapaport. He’s an amazing actor who is very funny. Is he playing a good guy or a bad guy? He’s an in-between guy. He’s on the fence at the moment. Oh, and Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) also comes back, which is great for the show."
But her head was cut off last season, wasn’t it?
"Well, we never saw the head. You never saw it on screen. You saw me looking into a box, but they never cut to the head. You’ll find out how when the show starts again."
Is Sara back because the fans caused a stink when she was killed off?
"I think that may have had something to do with it. Sure. I think the show needs that romantic vibe and I think that people are really longing for Michael and Sara to get it on, so it’s all good."
Does your character have a love interest this season?
"I don’t know. I wish he would, but I don’t think there’s enough time for romance when it comes to Lincoln. He leads a very high-paced, action-filled life and he’s always running."
Where would you like to see your character go?
"I’d like to see a bit more of an exploration between Lincoln and his brother. I’d like to see their journey, but that’s going to have to be another show because we haven’t got enough time to explore it on Prison Break. I’d also like to see him get involved romantically with someone. It would be nice to see a lot more of Lincoln’s sensitive side. Right now, he’s a bull at a gate. I’d like to see him calm down."
How often do you read a script and think, ‘Oh, come on… That’s just too weird!’?
"I’m beyond that. The second and third seasons were a bit like that, but I accept the fact that you have to check your brain at the door when you watch Prison Break. The fans have certainly done that, so thankfully we can move forward."
And are you ready for the end of Prison Break? When will it be time to call it a day?
"It’s hard to know when the end will be. We thought the first season was going to be the first and last – or at least the second season would end it all. But now we’re on the fourth season and there’s still more to go. They’re now talking about it going on for quite some time. The writers keep coming up with amazing ideas and storylines. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it just keeps going and going for a long time to come."
Prison Break season four starts with a two-hour premiere, Tuesday at 9pm on Sky1.
