Sky One has picked up the basic and free TV rights to air new sci-fi drama Eureka in the UK.

The show, starring Coupling's Colin Ferguson and Ally McBeal's Greg Germann, is set in a seemingly ordinary town, Eureka. However, the picturesque hamlet is actually a community of scientific geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research.

The series is currently in production in Vancouver and will air on the US Sci-Fi Channel in July before making its UK premiere later this summer.

"Eureka injects the small town America of Northern Exposure and the suspense of Twin Peaks with a twist of X-Files' science fiction," said David Smyth, Sky One's head of acquisitions, drama and comedy. "This series is a welcome addition to Sky One's US drama output and on the strength of the pilot we're confident that it will find a dedicated fan base in the UK."
