Sci Fi has picked up two LA Screenings products, the channel's first for three years.

The UK television premiere shows - Heroes and Who Wants To Be A Superhero? - were taken up by Sci Fi's Head of Acquisitions, Monica Iglesias and will be at the heart of its early 2007 prime-time offering.

Predicted to be the next Lost by US entertainment title TV Guide, Heroes is a corner-stone of US network NBC's autumn schedule. It follows the tale of a group of ordinary people who discover they have special powers; powers that will ultimately change the world. Cinematic in scope and ambition, Heroes was one of the most talked about shows online in the US this summer and has been commissioned for an initial 13 episode run. Distributed outside the US by NBC Universal International Television Distribution, the show will air on Sci Fi in quarter one of next year.

"It comes as no surprise that Heroes is one of NBC's hottest bets for this coming season," said Jon Farrar, programming director at Sci Fi UK. "An awesome, sexy, exhilarating drama with enough jaw-dropping moments to keep you gripped from start to finish, it is the undiscovered gem of this year's LA Screenings. It's X-Men meets Lost, and viewers are going to love it."

Produced by Sci Fi US, Nash Entertainment and comic book legend, Stan Lee, Who Wants To Be A Superhero? will be the first reality TV show to air on Sci Fi UK since Mad Mad House in 2004. Contestants vie for the chance of winning a Lee-produced comic book and a made-for-TV-movie by proving their superhero creation (costumes included) is worthy enough. Each week, challenges are set "to prove courage, integrity, self-sacrifice, compassion and resourcefulness". Like Heroes, the six episode show is distributed outside the US by NBC Universal International Television Distribution and will run exclusively on Sci Fi early next year.

"We just loved the premise of "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?" After all, who hasn't wanted to be one? The show is compelling, addictive fun. It's been a ratings hit for Sci Fi US and we're confident that it will do similar business for us here," added Farrar.
