Marching around with her glamorous 80s shoulder pads, a kind of sci-fi version of Alexis Colby from Dynasty, Diana both intimidated and aroused a host of males absorbed by the inter-species battle on the sublime V.
Diana came to Earth as part of the faux-friendly group of alien 'Visitors'. Second in command to John, her reptilian nature came to the fore when the show's hero Mike Donovan saw her expand her mouth and gulp down a live rodent. She definitely swallowed. Men around the globe wept and rejoiced at the same time.
She had her flaws, notably a sexual jealousy particularly evident through her torture scenes of Julie. But she was also a brilliant scientist and like Maggie Thatcher, a real bastion of the rise in feminine power throughout the 1980s. Just witness those impressive shoulder pads, striking make up and big hair. She could have seamlessly fitted into Duran Duran.
Sexily strutting around the mothership with a stern look, her demeanour was akin to a strict headmistress, who would take delight in punishing you for the tiniest of errors. Her back-stabbing side was also evident as we discovered that she was as happy to kill her own kind as harvest humans into food.
The question posed to hordes of red-blooded males around the world was... 'would you?' Even when you know there's a flickering tongued, scaly-skinned vicious lizard lurking beneath the faux-human skin and mask? 'Hell yeah' came the response from many. Now that's real Girl Power...
