S02E10: 'Truth And Consequences'

It's the penultimate episode of the second season and the clock is ticking down to the possible release of the Shanti virus. This plot strand finally has a pleasing sense of immediacy, helped by Peter's trip to the grim future that lies in store for the human race if the virus escapes. In an amusing twist, he is yet to discover that he is helping the man who intends to spread it.

Adam Monroe further develops as a character in the episode. Like Sylar, he is given far more substance than your average, generic Big Bad villain. The fact that he has lived for so many centuries, witnessed many horrific acts committed by mankind, means that we can understand why he might believe that he is doing the right thing by trying to push the Reset button on humanity.

Elsewhere, Sylar's manipulation of Maya is enthralling, the disposal of lame Alejandro is long overdue and the seaside scattering of the ashes by Claire is moving - despite the fact that her father is still alive. On the downside, the Micah-Monica subplot remains tedious, overly contrived and an unwanted distraction from the juicier events elsewhere.

On the whole though, Heroes is managing to sustain the momentum finally generated towards the end of the season. Given last year's damp squib of a finale though, there's some doubt as to whether the show can keep afloat in the next episode.
