'Heroes' S03E11: 'The Eclipse - Part Two'

Thankfully the sunlight came back to the show towards the end of the latest double parter, as the eclipse brought on the two poorest episodes in the largely impressive third season of Heroes.

There was plenty of boring running around in the jungle with the Petrelli brothers and Noah Bennett's pursuit of Elle and Sylar was similarly lacking in excitement. The show instead resorted to very cheap shock tactics to try to generate thrills, killing off Sylar and Claire in very gory, blood-splattered fashion. Yet so many characters have been seemingly killed in recent episodes only to bounce back, and this proved to be no exception. It's hard not to feel cheated at times.

It's a real shame, because the premise of a level battlefield with all the heroes powerless is undoubtedly brimming with possibilities. Instead, the show wasted precious time by running round in circles. For instance, what was the point of dispatching Mohinder all the way to see Maya, only to change his mind at the last moment?

Fortunately, once the sun returned, the quality immediately improved. The night time beach scene involving Sylar turning on Elle was full of menace, while Hiro's timely intervention in the Bennett living room was both funny and crowdpleasing - especially the "bad man" line to Sylar.

Let's just hope the makers of Heroes don't turn out the lights again.
