I have to say that I disagree with your review. I'm a late entrant to enjoying Primeval. I picked up a novelization and then found the series and watched S1 & 2 in sequence. I quickly became enamored of the characters, especially Nick Cutter. There was a great logic to the purpose of each character and their abilities. The story lines were tight and intelligent with some interesting ideas about evolutionary timelines. Then season 3 happened. It wasn't a brilliant masterstroke on the producer's parts that Nick was killed. Douglas Henshall decided to leave to pursue other projects, which is why I think his character was written so one-dimensionally in S3. I have nothing against Jason Flemyng, I think he's a decent actor. But, his character has no point. It's all over the top (and rather pointless) action. How exactly is an ex-cop going to lead a team against extinct animals? They really need another evolutionary zoologist or a physicist. They have SAS for the action. I was sadly very disappointed in S3 because the show suddenly became a childish romp with no clear thinking or reasoning. If you're a dinosaur geek, you want to see some intelligence in the storylines like the first 2 seasons had. I'm not into the show for the explosions and screaming. We lost the sense of wonder with the death of Nick and the new direction. I hope the show continues for the sake of everyone employed, but unless they start bringing actual plots back and not reactionary running around, I won't watch it. Douglas Henshall coming back through another evolutionary shift wouldn't hurt either. :)

ITV are showing that they have abandoned normal people in favor of cheep quick so called reality Shows. One Less reason to watch ITV.

I can't agree that characters like Nick and Helen Cutter where one-dimensional, as I really liked them and it's a shame their story arcs ended so dry. Still, I do feel the new set-up of the show has great potential, and if people don't like it it's only because it didn't settle really until episode 7, once Nick and Jenny where firmly off the scene and it was clear that Danny, Abbie, Connar, Sarah and Becker where the new team, which only gave us four episodes of the new "style" to get used to it. The final episode was incredibly disappointing, with the very, very end being the only exciting part (I actually disagree with the review, I didn't notice Helen dropping the Anomaly Opener), but now that the Nick Cutter generation is completely wiped out (although not as nicely wrapped up as I would have liked it, an explanation about what the heck happened at the end of the first series would have been nice but I guess there's no hope of that now) the Danny Quinn one can really begin and take form. I think the only faults with his character is that, with Helen still at her post as main villianess and Christina Johnson having been set up before Cutter bit the dust, the show did not quite seem like his, and he still appears to me as "Cutter's replacement". Now, however, the show has room for a new villain who is more personal to Danny, and I think there are many more great scenarios to squeeze out of the show. Unfortunately it looks like we may never see what Primeval could have become. I say ITV should reverse their decision to call off the show, as I know I'm not the only one to feel shocked and disappointing at this news. Primeval has plenty going for it and deserves the chance to show us what it can do!

its a shame its been cancelled. i have to say the first 2 series i thought were quite poor, it was far too cheesy & the acting wasnt brilliant in my opinion. but i really enjoyed the third series, the stories were more enjoyable and it seemed to have lost the cheese factor.
Izzy London on June 21st, 2009
I love Primeval and think its good entertainment. Why do people keep picking POINTLESS faults with it? The acting ISNT that bad, and the storylines are good, in fact, if Primeval does get cancelled another boring reality tv show will take is place, then those people who complained about Primeval, would complain about the reality show! I like the changes they made in Primeval, and unlike Dr who, they dont mind killing off poeple throughout the series instead on the final. They should do a fourth series of Primeval, because a lot of people have enjoyed the third, its a shame some people try to ruin the enjoyment of others, methinks.

please make another series me and my son louis 8 love it, i want to see abby and connor have babies

This series was brill. All my friends love it so do i. It is a shame that this is the last series.
Carol, Armagh, N Ireland on June 18th, 2009
Rumour has it that they won't be making a fourth series i think they're making a big mistake. i know it probably cost a lot to make but if they keep cancelling shows that the audience like they'll soon have no audience. they can't leave us hanging we need to have a proper ending, connor, abby and danny need to come home.
Janna on June 16th, 2009
I find it unbelieveable that they let you publish this article really. How can you call Douglas Henshall a "dour plank". You abviously have no taste in good acting. He's a brilliant actor who brought ten times more depth to the show than your average Jason Flemyng (who just does it for money as he stated). Douglas, you're really missed. The show died along with you.

I thought the effects of this series was truemendence you could see you put alot of money into this series than the other two I also thought the creatures of this series was brilliant especially the G-Rex at the airport And The fungus type creature it was really exciting and I thought the final of this series was brilliant too at Last Helen got what she deserved it really gave me and my familly something to watch on a saturday night i hope there is a series 4 next year !
Marie,Oxfordshire on June 13th, 2009
i love series 3,didn't like Cutter dying so soon into the series and Jenny leaving but other than that a fantastic show!! Connor and Abby are so cute together so glad they finally kissed,as for bringing in Captain Becker *thank you Primeval thank you* thought with Stephen dead no one could replace him well Becker certainly can hes hot!! please ITV commission series 4 cos Primeval has a massive fanbase and you cannot i repeat cannot leave the ending like you did!!

OMG! Primevakl was so weak this year! The lines were sooo predictable, and the characters completely changed!!! It was crap! I want to see series 4 for a laugh!!! I thoguh 9 was agood episode, but 9 times out of ten this series was just running around shouting and a few explosions added in. Utter rubbish. I have watyched primeval from the start, and I think Ive watched it to the end after this dire, dreadful series. I used to think primeval was better than doctor who and torchwood, but after seeing this murder of a good tv series I take it all back!!! Ive met five year olds that could come up with better plots!!! Acting was bad, stories were bad, "special" effects were bad, the only good thing is that hopefully they wont be able to get back through the freeking anomaly!!

Are you mad season 1 & 2 were fantastic season 3 no were near as good
natalie,wolverhampton on June 9th, 2009
i agree about the finale. its obvious they'll be able to get back. as long as connor and abby find the device its all good. your right it ruins the elimante of a cliffhanger. as for the series i liked it. maybe its coz i fancy andrew lee potts and ben mansfield. plus i liked abby's brother - he was cute. i felt sorry for the character of sarah - she didnt have much to do , shame. i wish connor and abby would declare their love its getting quite annoying now. i liked the character of danny he was really good and offered some freshness to the show. to be honest i forgot about cutter and it felt like danny had been part of the team all the time. i wish jenny had stayed though. i loved the baby dinos - how adorable. some eps were really great especlially eps 2,4,6,8. i was very sad to see abbeys brother go :( i think helens a good villain , you just wish that woman would die and i was pleased when see did but her death was boring. you wanted to punch her most of the time. overall quite a good series. plus i love connors outfits.
Phil , Birmingham on June 9th, 2009
Like the new direction the shows taken... not to sure of the new characters... Liked the finale... About time they did more exploring beyond the anomalies... the Monster of the week in modern day London idea was getting a bit tired... wanna see more episodes perhaps seeing them try and get home... exploring the past and future....

I'm in the camp that was ready to give up on Primeval after the first two series. I only gave the latest series a chance after radical changes were promised during development. Thankfully, I think they have succeeded in moving the show away from it's Walking with Dinosaurs roots and injected some actual mythology into the show, so that now you can get interested in the overall arc rather than it being a 'take it or leave it' approach to each episode. I hope they continue to take chances in the next series and don't waste the opportunities and heightened tension they created this year. No one on the team should feel safe. Even if it means good guys dying and then coming back as evil clones a few episodes later. With good writing that should provide decent TV. Considering we're dealing with Dinosaurs here some attrition should be expected with the cast. The only people beyond reach should be Abby and Connor, the rest of the cast are interchangeable and should service the story, replacing them as necessary. My kids wanted more travelling through anomalies and personally I would love it if Abby and Connor find the Handheld Anomaly Generator which gets them back to Danny but from there on the information is useless and they have to travel through a few random anomalies to get back to the present. Maybe they would find themselves in the midst of the Cataclysm which killed off the dinosaurs and they find that their anomaly is at ground zero! Anyway, there's still a lot of potential in the timehopping with the dinosaurs adding that everpresent sense of danger and the mystery of why the ARC was supposed to have caused the troubed future in the first place. Maybe the show just lacks a consistent voice because it has no Head Writer? If it could sort that out maybe series 4 could be the one that enshrines it in genre history as an eternal franchise, open to sequels and re-imaginings.

HAHA. This review really makes me laugh. It's overall a big joke. If the producers want to know what the real fans think and they shouldn't be blinded by this review, they should look through fan forums from England over Germany to Spain and will notice what the FANS really think about "brilliant" series 3. Just wnat to say, the producers have disappointed a lot of fans and if you want primeval so survive longer than the next series than LISTEN to your fans.

Primeval has turned into a top class UK Sci-fi series this year. I have enjoyed every episode and love the new dark direction the show has been taken in. The Cliffhanger leaves lots of scope for the next series, ITV you better re- commision it. Its been a blast and a good ratings winner for ITV the past 10 weeks, Ok it doesn't get the ratings Dr Who gets but on the whole this is a dam fine British Sci-fi. I will wait in hope for series 4. Please ITV, I know the credit crunch is hitting shows but this deserves to return and we need that Cliffhanger ep resolving. The new team works really well, Saturdays just wouldn't be the same without them.

A disappointing 3rd season. Cutter seemed to have lost interest both as the character and by the actor. I really want someone to slap Helen from one side of London to the other. Jason Flemyng is brilliant but should have been offered Doctor Who instead. Seriously lacking overall but some stories make up for the shortfall. Episodes 2 adn 6 being the series highlights.
Tom, London on June 8th, 2009
Not much mystery, is there? Helen dropped her Anomaly opening device near Abby and Connor, and as they know where she was heading (not only physically, as in the direction she was running when she dropped the thing) but also anomaly-wise. So, next series, they find that, then go fetch Nick. Presumably they'll also remove Helen and the Raptor, as the question of why they were found along side the site 333 hominids might cause a few questions later on... The series ended better than it began, but never seems to have lived up to its potential, you know, as a StarGate/Dr Who kinda crossover.

If you want some real reviews from fans that could be benficial to Primeval in the future you should go onto the official forum
Charlotte - England on June 8th, 2009
Was you actualy watching the same show as half the fandom or have you been paid to write this? The acting was terrible compared to any other seasons. Team dynamics, what team dynamics? The story arches were un-intelligent. The characters didn't even stay in character and were used more as props to move the story line. Danny is 2D. The more plot holes than i can count and that was just in the finale. Season 3 is not even 100th of what Primeval used to be.
Matt ,Gateshead on June 8th, 2009
Disagree on your idea of the final i'm afraid - after all this is a show about monsters and dinosaurs reaping havoc throughout time. Helen has been on the run from them for years, it makes sense for her demise to be at the hands of a time displaced creature and prevents a coruption of the arc members who seem entirely against killing. I think that a return of Lucy Brown's Jenny is unlikely. The idea of Lucy (in either character) emerging through an anomoly to save the team during season four seems like much more of a flip and a twist on what we'd expect in any respect yes we have an idea how connor and abby may escape but i want to know what Sarah's idea is - it seems she will be elevated in status next series from a 'recurring style character' following the trimming of cast members. also fifty quid says Helen reappears via video clips/flashbacks when the new villian emerges

it's Great! Primeval hooked me in at season 3, great plots, acting, excellent effects - the Stargate franchise could do worse than check out the dynamics in this team!

i think its been a good one this time,i can't wait for the next series, the new characters are brill and the old ones get better, so there better had be a series 4, or we will all be sad.
Kerstin, Germany on June 7th, 2009
I can live without another season. Season 3 was mostly utter crap. There is nothing left from the charming series I fell for. The plotholes are gigantic, the character developement nearly non existent and Danny's superhero attitude is just annoying. They could have killed them all off in the last episode for all I care.
Hestia, France on June 7th, 2009
I think you are a little bit unfair with the show and the actors. Specially Ben Mansfield who plays a lovely Captain Becker, and Laila Rouass. I mean, with Danny and Christine sorylines, we hardly had a chance to know those two caracters! I'm not saying that every aspect of the show/caracters are great, it has it's flaws, but I just think the review is not too fair, it's a nice little serie. And I believe there is a lot of less interesting shows outhere who are still runing. Series one and two where not so bad!
phil, notts on June 7th, 2009
It keeps getting better and better with each series! ITV, please commision series 4!
Alex, Felixstowe on June 7th, 2009
Definitely a vast improvement on the previous series- although I didn't think they were that bad to start with. In fact, I think this series is strong competition for Dr Who- I'm starting to prefer Primeval in fact. Maybe when Who starts getting storylines written for people over the age of five that will change...
Matthew, Bradford on June 7th, 2009
Please don`t axe this fantastic show!! it would be the biggest mistake you`ve ever made..
John on June 7th, 2009
Seriously, I can't believe what I am reading. You really think that the team dynamics are better without Cutter? I thought there were absolutely NO character dynamics at all after he left. verage acting of all of the actors, a bad plot (or no plot at all?) even bigger plot holes.....overall too much action and less Primeval. It's far away from the greatness of the first two series.
Lea on June 7th, 2009
Oh good are you serious? Series 3 is far from beeing as good as series 1 and 2. It was disappointing to say at least.
Ele. Woodall Manchester on June 7th, 2009
Im on the verge, some episodes this year were really good, like episode 2,6,8,9 but the others wernt so good, maybe its just they have to mays new charecters, i kind miss the old ones, like nick and jenny, claudia, maybe they shud bring one back for series 4, i cnt wait for that... and yeh it has filled the dctr who gap!
Kate london on June 7th, 2009
Oh come on the final wasn't that bad! Agree with you though they should do more with some characters! Shame Cutter died though he could have had more in his last episodes he was kind of fading away! Do we ever get answers? Claudia/Jenny, anybody? No? lol there had better be a series 4
Chloe, Birmingham on June 7th, 2009
why did cutter have to die? Why did jenny leave? I love primeval but it was better with these two. They should bring them back, it's not the same without them. Cutter + Jenny
Linda Haig Spain on June 7th, 2009
I love the show what am I going to do now with my Saturday evenings, do wish Cutter hadnt gone though
Ben, Lancashire on June 7th, 2009
I completly agree. A smashing third season. As with most modern British shows these days the storyline was already stale from episode 1. Sure, we had the intriguing Artifact and Helen's clones but after 2 hit and miss series before it it seemed likley Primeval would end after 3 series. Then, it got better and better. More exciting stories, a huge twist in the killing of Nick Cutter and some more reveal into why anomalies exist in the first place (seems pretty likley the ARC actually created them and started it all). A vastly improved show and the best series yet, with Jason Flemying really fitting in well as the new fearless leader Danny. It does seem the show has re invented itself for the better and it bodes very well for a series 4, and if they keep up the good work, even a series 5. I mean they have admitted they plan 7 series.
gem london on June 7th, 2009
i love it!! cannot believe they left danny in the cavemen times and abby n connor with dinosaurs!! and now we have to wait til next year to see if and how they get out of it. But still love em for it :D
