Thank the Lord! Both the plot and the acting were spot on this week, making it v. enjoyable to watch. Each & every one shines in their screen time, showing the moral dilemma as the line between right and wrong, good and evil is blurred. Can't WAIT for the next episode!

Merlin has shaped up to become my favourite TV show of the year.. I think im actually liking it more then Doctor Who! (But only just!) What an excellent episode it was, I was hooked from start to finish but thats the same with every episode.. thats how I realise what a great show it is

I agree I love the dark ominous undertones and the humour with the walking boots and keys was v.funny. I thought Morgana was excellent I agree she's been underused and I also enjoyed the chemistry between her,Merlin and Arthur, I hope they have more of these three and realise what talent they have. The writing seemed loads better too. I've also enjoyed the shift away from the awkward flirting between Merlin and Gwen to storylines with more depth. I hope it continues. The little boy was v.good as well.

Katie McGrath is utterly sublime as Morgana and I agree with this reviewer, this is the strongest episode of the season so far. I really hope to see Katie given more screen-time in future episodes as she has been terribly underused in past ones.

Merlin is the perfect remedy to miserable Novermber evenings. I have stuck with it since the start despite some weak plots and shaky dialogue simply because the actors make the characters so likeable and it is beautifully filmed. I couldn't agree more that this has been the best episode so far and makes me look forward to those to come. I think Merlin is severly underrated actually. I do hope the standard can be maintained.

Yes, yes, yes! Once again we are in agreement! I loved everything about this episode - the scenes where Merlin deliberates over the fate of Mordred have finally convinced me that Colin Morgan CAN act, and Merlin has succeeded in not annoying me at all, even if he is still speaking a bit like a 21st century teenager. Katie McGrath and Anthony Head are my favourites in Merlin so far, and this episode only strengthens it really. And like the reviewer says, it's nice to take a backseat from the action and introduce a very new and different plot to the usual formula. Unfortunately my TV skipped around a bit on the dragon's very important bit (it came at last, thank goodness) but I think we all got the gist of it from the trailers. Did I mention that Asa Butterfield was quite good too? Heehee.

Another great magical episode.. It was interesting to watch the mystery around the young boy and I have a feeling that it is not the last time we will see him. The best bits of the episode was the boots walking on their own and the keys rattling and following Aurther around the room. I can't wait for the next episode.

Got to agree with Gareth and DS' reviews. Katie McGrath is quite nice and looks great too! Best ep of Merlin so far, if it can hold it till the end of the series then maybe it can get a much improved second.

I've enjoyed Merlin from the beginning but this episode was really exceptional family drama. Its mix of humour, drama, magic and character interaction is a delight.

I don't think these reviews should be written by somebody who is such a big Doctor Who fan. The shows have little in common but comparisons are always being drawn. I don't think it makes for a fair review.

merlin really does get better every week! i used to watch this series just cos it was on, but now i find i actually can't miss it - and even when the plot gets shaky, the acting's always fab. the young leads in this show are really stellar; i love the chemistry between merlin and arthur, which succeeds not only in funny scenes (like the key-hidden-behind-head one) but also in more serious ones. they're both incredibly watchable actors. last night's was, indeed, definitely the best episode yet. like they finally realised that the characters are the show's strongest asset, and giving them a moral dilemma or testing their relationships is always going to be more interesting than just making them run about after something. hurray!

Wow this episode was amazing! Definitely the best episode yet, no doubt about it! Katie McGrath was amazing, she deserves lots of screen time from now on as she's probably the best young actor there!

This has to be the best Merlin episode to date! The child was amazing, better than many professional people much older than him. I agree about Katie McGrath's acting, and she's quite good looking too ;) Plus the pre-title sequence contained excitement, unlike the previous few episodes.
