Having watched every episode up until season 2 episode 6,i think it's one of my fav programme's ever made!! it has every single genre.it's funny,it's horrific,it's sad!!this is the kind of tv i've been waiting for.you'd be mad to miss it.beat's buffy hand's down.Tara is a wicked caracter.her attitude is purely hilarious but don't judge her.she's had it hard and id have a chip on my shoulder if i had a mother as terrible as her's.for those who are unsure, stick with it.you won't be disappointed :)

i agree the tara character and her storyline were unwnated and not needed, and the jason stroyline gets a bit boring in eps 7,8,9 but still a good show.

I don't like it when screen adaptations are always compared to the books they came from. They're allowed to be different...or what would be the point of adapting it?! I'm on series 2, and book 1, and love both. Series 1 really gets going after a couple of episodes and keeps on getting better; totally hooked! I heart Sam.

Tara doesn't appear in the original book "Dead Until Dark" and the story is a whole lot better for it. I have seen all 12 episodes already and believe me, there is no room in this series for the stupid voodoo / drunken mother sub-plot that happen in later episodes. Sam's sex with Tara does not ring true - he has passions elsewhere and the reasons are revealed in the last 20 pages of the said book. I think the series as televised is great but would have been a whole lot better without bolting on Tara as she brings nothing at all to the plot. Jason's sex scenes are never described and the whole kidnapping of the vampire for "V" by blood draining is entirely a product of the tv series. The Jason in the book(s) would never have done that.

True Blood (as I've seen many episodes) will grow on you. Very impressive to say the least, 'but' you must follow it from Season 1 Episode 1 to appreciate how well it flows on. The occasional 'special effects' are faultless and the end of each episode will have you wanting more. Michael

erm, what channel is this on? Hopefully not one you have to pay extra for (e.g. Sky1)

Tru Blood First season has just finished here in South Africa - KEEP WATCHING IT!! It's excellent, takes a while to get to know all the characters but I cant wait for Season 2 you kids are in for a treat! I can't rave about it enough, keep Twilight for the little ones and Tru Blood is definitely for adults only!!!

I've watched season 1 last year on the internet and it was okay, but the second season (which I'm watching on the internet) which is up to episode 5, is really good and getting HUGE viewer numbers and is a success already. People should stick with it.

Goodish review, however with Series 2 already underway its a little dated. Its most definitely an ensemble piece with Sam, Lafayette and in particular Jason and Tara all becoming much more rounded and to be honest far more interesting characters than Sookie and Bill. Those two anchor the show, but the trails and tribulations of the others are what gives the show its bite. The remaining supporting cast members are slowly fleshed out creating a weird but well realised (and highly eroticised) alternate reality where "odd" and "inhuman" are adjectives that can be applied to pretty much any of the characters, whether they have fangs or not. Stick with it, its pays off. Definitely one of the better written and produced american shows in recent years. View it as a more brooding and sexy companion to Dexter.

After watching episode 1 I'm still abit unsure. I didn't dislike the show at all but I wasn't enthralled. Still, I'll be giving it another chance before I make up my mind.

Having seen the whole first series and right up to the latest episode, this is without a doubt one of the best shows on tv at the moment in my opinion, theres a few shockers along the way to keep you wanting more.., Sookie, Sam, Bill, Tara, Eric, Jason and Lafayette are great characters. The Biggest problem about True Blood is having to wait a whole week for the next ep :)

Brilliant first show, I'll definitely be looking out for this one. Just watched it for the second time with some friends. I loved the twisted humour throughout. I too liked Tara straight away, unlike the reviewer. I loved the scene with her and the chef in the bar, with the poor customer seemingly wondering what he's walked into the middle of.

Forget the series, its nasty. Read the books unstead, they are sooooooooo much better! The series leaves out the best stuff from them, and substitutes some pretty gross sex scenes for plot.
Emma, Sheffield on July 19th, 2009
Having seen the entire first series and read the books that the series is based, all i can say is keep watching - it is fangtastic ;)

I'm pretty certain that everything you see in Truebood originated from the mind of Charlaine Harris- Alan Ball just turned her books into the series. But I am so happy, as a reader of the books, to see that Trueblood had turned out to be really good!!!

i liked it - but i love gritty vampire shows. it was a bit rude and the c word was used. so sadly younger kids wont be able to see such a good show. i dunno if at 16 im "old enough" but i don't care it didn't bother me it just took me by surprise a bit. bill is hot. the only negative is the annoying accents - they are driving me mad already.
Erica, UK on July 19th, 2009
I love this series!!!!! The books are amazing and the tv series follows them really well!! Id really recommend reading the books

The first episode was ok i suppose. There was probably something much better on another channel. For an American TV show it was pretty raunchy, most of which being completely unnecessary. The storyline was alright, but trying to get a good relationship going between the main character (what is with the name Sookie?!) and "Bill" the vampire is too Twilight. Apart from that the acting was pretty awful too. The supporting roles of the chef and Sookie's best friend were the only decent characters with a glimpse of a decent and humorous personality. Sookie was shown to be the stereotypical blonde - ditzy and stupid. I've not read the books so they might be better. Might watch the second episode to see if it gets any better.

I've been reading the Southern Vampire mysteries since '05 and I am loving the True Blood series so far. I'm already on series 2(god bless video uploaders) and just about to start book 9. If you love the series, give the books a read. Ten times better than the show, trust me.

I'd been aware about True Blood for at least a year when I got into vampire's once again and told myself I was going to watch it and I never did, up until about 4 or 3 months ago when I started watching it online, and I'm up to Season 2, episode 4 were the next episode should be airing later on today and I must say it is probably the best TV show I've seen in a long time. It's raunchy in an appealing way, great acting, has something for everyone, whether it be the love aspect, the sex or violence which makes me disagree with the comment on supporting characters, as once the Season 1 really develops, Sam, Tara, Lafayette and others become crucial to the show.
Caroline,Dublin Irelan on July 19th, 2009
I loved the 1st episode, i came across it by accident but was hooked from the beginning, I can't wait for the second episode, and I think Tara's character is great,
Jordan, N.Ireland on July 19th, 2009
I've already seen the first five episodes of season 1 and I have to disagree with you on your opinion about the supporting characters. All of them develop superbly throughout, leaving us endeared and intruged by their 'purpose' and underlying emotion. All of the characters (mostly Tara and Sam) are emotionally crippled and it is beautiful to watch as the show chips away at their head-strong veneer's and allows us to see the raw emotion of these characters.
Peter, Brisbane on July 19th, 2009
Trust me, the show improves immeasurably after the first few episodes and the supporting characters get fleshed out heaps. I'm up to the 4th episode of the second series and honestly I find the Bill/Sookie arc probably the least interesting in the show (Lafayette, the chef, is a particularly great character). Anyway, if you liked the pilot then definitely stick with it because it's only up from there.
Ami, Manchester on July 19th, 2009
Good first episode! The ending of that got me going for sure. Sookie and Bill have amazing chemistry! Can't wait to see the next episode next week!
tom london on July 19th, 2009
series starts strong drawn in , but around eps 7,8,9,10 a bit dull and sagging , if i did not have the dvds would not have come back each week also tara one of the most painful sterotypes on tv in a long time
carley, gloucester on July 19th, 2009
Have none of you read the books? So far nobody seems to awknowledge the original medium of these characters!
Padraig, Ireland on July 19th, 2009
I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Chris, N.Wales on July 19th, 2009
Good review, but I disagree about the supporting characters, I really warmed to Tara in the first episode and I thought the chef was hillarious. I think Sam could be crucial to the story.
David, Croydon on July 19th, 2009
So far so good. I was completly drawn in to the show within the first 10 minutes or so. The main characters are strong, although agree the supporting characters appear, at the moment, 2d. However, it is the first episode so lets see what happens. I also was getting the feel of Twin Peaks, but with a somewhat faster pace of developments! I'm hoping this is as good as it first appears because theres nothing else worthing watching at the moment! Oh if only 4400 was given a 5th season, then my sci-fi fix would really be furfilled!
ABM, Leeds on July 19th, 2009
Admittedly the first episode isn't all that great, however stick with it .. It turns out to be one of the best series I have seen in years!! Each character has theirpart to play in the overall storyline! Can't wait to see Season 2!!! AWESOME!

True Blood is standing steady as one of my fave shows atm. I'm a big fan of the books, but I had see the first season before I read them all :) I remember seeing the first ep way back and being very impressed. You're right about Tara though, not being a char from the book in anything but name I think they struggled to find a balance for her strong personality, especially in a pilot episode where everything has to be somewhat amplified to show the network its worth in America. I hope the rest of England manages to embrace this show for the quality production it is.
Lynne Helen. Scotland on July 19th, 2009
Having watched the first episode i am so excited to see what they are going to bring to the table next, yes i have read the books which the show is based on, and i love them both, Anna Paquin is fantastic as the role of the blond telepath Sookie Stackhouse and you cannot over look Stephen Moyer as the brooding vampire Bill Compton. I don't think there's been a show like this is a long time where you cannot wait until the next episode.
Steph, Milton Keynes on July 19th, 2009
I am a Buffy stalwart and love Twilight...I was unsure after watching the adverts for True Blood as to whether I would enjoy it but Ive since watched the first episode twice and I love it. The chemistry between Sookie and Bill is amazing and I have set my set top to record every episode! Well done HBO for bringing something different to the table.
