Catherine Tate was excellent and Billie Piper was fantastic too. Can't wait for the finale. Had just the right amount of humour (not TOO much) and was a gripping storyline, fast paced and un-missable. This and "Blink" best episodes ever!

Ok, it wasn't awful (which I had expected), but it certainly wasn't great either. The whole format of the show was very derivative (as was the Matrix influence of Silence in the Library), and you were never in doubt that the whole thing would be rectified by the end of the episode. However. I really don't like Catherine Tate in this role - (shouting one minute, balling her eyes out the next) - but she handled the episode perfectly adequately. The point is, she didn't annoy the crap out of me for the full 45 minutes; probably only about half in fact, so well done Catherine! I'm not looking forward that much to next week's episode for one big reason. It's a huge mistake I feel to have the Doctor joined by Martha, Rose, Donna, Mickey, Jack AND Torchwooders. Why? Because keeping the narrative focused is going to be very difficult indeed. The impact of events and situations will be lessened I feel by too many people we're supposed to care about being crammed into the story, and I reckon the overall emotional and dramatic effect will be baggy and too erratic. Plus, the Daleks are fantastically overrated and i would have liked to have seen a finale that was centred around a new villain rather than a retro one. As ever, the best Doctor Who episodes have been the personal, intimate and frightening ones - The Girl in the Fireplace, The Empty Child, Human Nature, Blink, Midnight, The Satan Pit etc - and not the ones which revolves around the philosophy of, "everyone run away from the silly creatures in funny rubber prosthetics!"

I must say it was a good episode but I just kept getting confused. As quite a new fan of the series, it was quite hard for me to grasp what was going on and compared to the more linear stories in the last two episodes, I wasn't as excited by what was going on. I am very excited about next week's episode though and I'm not looking forward to losing Catherine Tate in a few weeks!

i thought it was one of the best written and acted episodes so far even though there was unfortunately very little David Tennant, who is always brilliant. Catherine Tate proved herself!

Brilliant episode. But, Conor from Birmingham, you're talking a load of nonsense. Biggest of all being this: Where was captain jack for two years before he reunited with the doctor? Um, even if you didn't watch Torchwood, Jack told us last year in Utopia. It's been almost ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY YEARS for him, and he's been on Earth, living through the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries, waiting for the Doctor and, most recently, running Torchwood Cardiff. The fact that you didn't know that really does cast a lot of doubt on the rest of your speculation.

err lucy, if the dr had died at the hands of the racnos, then he wouldnt have met martha to take her on the adventure where thay met the master, dah fantastic episode, love them all

Absolutely brilliant. This was the chance for ALL the Doctor's companions to shine, including the ones we didn't see. In the absence of the Doctor, all of them - Donna, Rose, Martha, Sarah Jane and Jack - stepped up, BECAME the Doctor and saved the day. Even more amazing for Martha and Donna, as they'd never even met him in this reality. Perfect: DW has finally learned how to do a Doctor-lite episode. And, yes, Billie's Rose voice wasn't the best and she really did look as if she's had some bad dental work (I think she's lost too much weight and it's making her teeth more prominent than they should be) but her performance was so excellent otherwise that I could overlook it. Best episode of the season so far, and I'm on tenterhooks for the finale.

Lots of things to be seen next week and some of the things that come out in next weeks episode have already been revealed. The return of rose has been seen all through this series. An example of her trying to make contact with the doctor is in the episode midnight where she is seen on the television screen when the ship actually breaks down. Lots of things have been cropping up in this series that leads to who the bad wolf actually (is). As we know in series one the bad wolf was rose. But lots of things in this series have changed who or what the bad wolf is. In the next episode of Doctor Who, we see the result of why so many bees have been going missing in earth. We also see why so many planest have been lost, so many statements of planets being lost have been cropping up. In this episode, we heard on the news on the television the death of martha jones which is said to happen next week and even to the climactic death of donna. These are only theories and not spoilers. Also the learning substance that copied the doctor and had access to his memory in the episode midnight was chucked out of the ship so i believe that the substance that was learning could be the bad wolf hence rose's warning on the television just before it happened. Lots of the barriers of the universes are broken next week to see some resounding and memorable characters. Some questions sure to be answered: Where was captain jack for two years before he reunited with the doctor? The Tardis' energy has gone in the parrallel world of rose. This is why it was red in the world of the doctors as anything that happens in one world happens in the other. Unknown and not released till next week is that rose is already in the doctors world and came into the doctors world in this episode. She jumped the time machine and went back with donna and this is why we see her whisper the words to donna in the doctors world. A red dalek next week proves to be the leader of the daleks even though we have seen so many in the past 100 episodes. One thing is for sure, the bad wolf could suceed, have to tune in next week to see what is happening?

Absolutely brilliant episode. And have to say, i think this has been the best series so far. Catherine Tate has been a breath of fresh air and has proved that she is just not a comedian, but a superb actress. Bring on the finale...I cannot wait!
MJ, London on June 22nd, 2008
Loved the ep, really good, but whst was happening with Billie Piper's speech? Has she got new teeth or something? Next week looks fantastic, can't wait.

I must have watched a different episode to most people. I thought this episode was rubbish. I've been a fan of DW since it first started....no, not this new one I mean the old series back in 1963! This episode was merely a filler before the finale. It used the old, old fall back trick of showing past scenes but not done well. As for the ridiculous plastic beetle? Shades of the McCoy times :-( Of course, this is just the oh so humble opinion of a life long fan.

andrew, cardiff on June 22nd, 2008
last weeks was awful, so many unanswered questions but this weeks was the total opposite. i wasnt expecting much from this because it was an RTD ep but he has outdone himself. outstandingly written and the preparation that went into it was unbelievable, RTD put a lot of time in researching basically everything about dr who aince its return and he's produced a concrete script with all corners covered, how is there not even one plothole in such a complicated plot. Catherine Tate's acting was incredible, the hype was about Rose but she perishes in comparison to the amazing acting from Tate, how has she remained undiscovered until now? i was engrossed from start to finish, perfect mixture of comedy, creepiness, scariness and seriousness. that bettle playing with her hair was classic scary who. With the POSSIBLE exception of Blink, this is the best Dr. Who episode ever in my opinion. Well done RTD you are going out with a massive bang.

Simon, London on June 22nd, 2008
Catherine Tate was superb. A tour de force performance. If she fails to win a BAFTA next year, this world is better off left to the Daleks.
Katherine, London on June 22nd, 2008
Loved the episode, a great chance for the rest of the cast to show their skills, but I just can't get over the one MAJOR flaw with any "events change history" episode - the full butterfly effect. SO, who stopped the human/dalek hybrid race from taking over 1920's New York, what caused Pompei to blow up and destroy that invading army of stone people, what happened to the "witches" that came through the portal created by Shakespeare's plays? All these were left unanswered....

I really love this episode.

It gets better each time I watch it :D
Roxanna, London on June 22nd, 2008
I thought this episode was brilliant. I cannot wait for next weeks, when practically everybody is in it. It was great seeing Rose back, didn't understand what was up with her teeth though. There was one thing that I think they should have done though. When they sent Donna back in time to turn left instread of right, and she had only 4 minutes to make herself turn left, they should have played that "4 minutes [to save the world]" song by Madonna & Justin Timberlake.
Hayley, Midlands on June 22nd, 2008
Brillant episode, best so far of this series and great to have Billie back! Can't wait for next week!
Daniel, London on June 22nd, 2008
Hmmm, not bad. Bit underwhelmed by the return of Rose, surprised by how good Catherine Tate's serious moments are getting and Knighthood for Cribbins is a must. But as other posters have said, episodes like this where everything goes back to how it was can be annoying. Made even worse by RTD calling it 'the cheap episode' in Confidential. And next week? WOOOO! But it's like Star Wars Ep 3... By now, everyone knows what and who's in it - it's just the how they do it. Shadow Proc, lost planets, bees, Rose, Donna being something more and the Doctor ever bubbling hand. Will Rose raise an eyebrow if she meets Gwen from Torchwood though? "Hang on a minute, you look like a scullery maid I knew who died a hundred years ago?"
Justin, Birmingham on June 22nd, 2008
Catherine was simply outstounding! I hope the doubters are having a serious case of the guilt now!
Philip, Newcastle on June 22nd, 2008
Convoluted and self-indulgent rubbish. For fanboys only. After last week's wonderful episode, this really was disappointing.
Alex, Nottingham on June 22nd, 2008
Cliche premise and appaulingly written, admittedly all that can ever be expected from RTD. And soon the credibility of one of the greatest characters from the show is about to be destroyed, fantastic.
TG - London on June 22nd, 2008
I must admit having watched the trailers and obviously looking forward to Rose's return I was a little underwhelmed in parts by last nights episode. The acting by Wilf and Donna was superb and really added to the question of what would have happened if she hadn't met the doctor. However Billie's acting as Rose... I'm a fan of Billie and loved her in the last series, but what was happening with her accent?! For some reason it made it hard for me to identify with her character as it just didn't seem like Rose! Fingers crossed next week she'll have it sorted and I can't wait for her reunion with the Dr. Really looking forward to next weeks episode, the combination of torchwood, the dr's assistants old and new, brilliant!!

Rich, Wolverhampton on June 22nd, 2008
This episode was as usual great, but next weeks, WOW. A crossover at last but it wont be a proper crossover unless the dr ends up in torchwoods hub which I thought was unclear from the trailer. Billie and Cath were brilliant in this episode and I cant wait to see that bad boy Davros thrown back into the mix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jamie, Norwich on June 22nd, 2008
Catherine Tate proved all of the skeptics wrong last night with an excellent show of her acting skills, the fact that the Dr was not in it that much made it even better. I agree with the other comments about Bernard Cribbins, an excellent duo he and Catherine made. Was nice to see that the other events happen even though the Dr was not there and how they played out with Martha, Sarah-Jane and Torchwood trying to stop these events. Did anyone else see any reference to Bad Wolf in the episode before the last minute?

Blown Away, Beds on June 22nd, 2008
OMG! it was amazing, I have been pleased time and time again to be proved wrong in my original assessment of CT and this episode did it again! I couldnt wait to see Rose again and wasnt let down; gone is the happy go lucky in love with The Doctor Rose, now we have Rose the grown up ready to kick some serious butt. I was shouting at the TV that it couldnt leave us hanging like that for another week but it can and it did............roll on next week for the ultimate finale

After last weeks dimall boring performance i found myself jumping up and down with excitment at hte end of this episode best ep this season and really whets my appitite for the season finale
Louis, Bournemouth on June 22nd, 2008
Brilliant and next week finally the spin-offs are crossing over. P.S to the person who made the comment about the Master, the Doctor was already dead so he couldn't travel to the end of the universe, even if the Master did retake his body, he had no TARDIS to steal. So he never came to earth.
Andrew Ford, Surbiton on June 22nd, 2008
I enjoyed it, though like last year's "Utopia", it depended rather too much on it's payoff at the end. As an opener for the oncoming finale, it probably works well.
James on June 21st, 2008
Fantastic! It was excellent how RTD weaved in stuff from earlier series's. And BadWolf was a complete suprise, although I do struggle to remember what it signified in the 1st series. And finally a Dr Who/Torchwood crossover! Although to be honest the finale rendered the whole episode obselete to some extent and the Beetle on her back was beyond me.
Big Red, Kaled on June 21st, 2008
Possibly the most over-rated episode ever, judging by the initial responses. An unoriginal idea, 40 minutes of padding and no actual content; just a bunch of sequences reminding us how life would be so grim without the Doctor (a pretty foolish theme for a Doctor-lite ep). Oh, and lets not forget the big shiny RESET button at the end, rendering the whole thing completely missable aside from the trailer for next week. If you think this is a good episode, go and watch The Wish in Buffy. It's the same idea, but done far, far better.
Mark, London on June 21st, 2008
What has Billie Piper done? Has she had something done - seemed like she was struggling to speak???? Other than that brilliant; like others, I cannot wait to see the last 2 episodes!
Si, Southampton on June 21st, 2008
Superb episode. I was a Catherine Tate doubter until this episode, who turned an incredible and emotional performance -although the death could have been slightly better.
Steph, Wolverhampton on June 21st, 2008
Awesome episode, the twists, the turns, the losses, the shocks and that doesn't include that Rose is back! Bernard Cribbins as Wilf made me cry when saluting and those few words he spoke, simply haunting when the realisation hits you. Catherine Tate also proves she's a great actress. I was gripped from beginning to very end. Next week will be stunning....Is it Saturday yet?
Joe, Leeds on June 21st, 2008
It was OK...but paled in comparison to the short teaser at the end.
Lily, London on June 21st, 2008
It was so amazing! I love Rose, I'm so glad she's back! I can't wait til next week!!!!
