Catherine tate was particularly irritating this whole series - her constant screaming i'm just a temp was pathetic - she had nothing of the presence of either rose or martha and dampened an otherwise brilliant finale - i agree that the ending was somewhat predictable, but the inference in the subsequent special that the daleks / the master? may be back already creates tension for the next series. Aprehensive about the new doctor having enough manic enthusiasm for the role and may come off as an arrogant kid - we will see

Very touching , maybe ott a wee bit with all the people in the tardis but the cloned dr was sexy almost beating the real dr to second place , pity the clone went off with Rose in a way , donna would have been better A! oh and why wasnt Martha hugged ? or given a clone but she did ok and married Mickey (think so )

Thought the finale was very good - very enjoyable - loved the 'doctor Donna' - thought that Catherine Tate was excellent - such a shame to lose her character.

What an amazing finale

I LOVED the season finale, the highlight being the line, "It's you! ... *looks away* you're naked!" haha classic! BUT I thought Donna's ending was immensely cruel, I cried sooooo much! Donna was the best companion ever and then Rose gets a happy ending and she doesn't! The injustice! It actually took me ages to get over that. But overall, it was brilliant.

best episode yet but donna's death was a bit of a let down. she didnt really die (good). cant weight for next series. hey all doctor who fans!!!
Chris on September 9th, 2008
It had some good moments, but was ruined by shoddy science, lack of logic and the main characters acting out of character.

i want more of David Tennant as the doctor! :)

I thought this season's finale was absolutely fantastic, miles better than last year! I loved the part where Donna's a Time Lord/Human but the scene where Donna's begging the Doctor to not wipe her mind was definitely the tear jerker of the series! Apart from the slightly cheesy moment where Rose kisses the Human Doctor on the beach, Journey's End was a brilliant and satisfying end to this series!

I suppose I'm disappointed because this has been a FANTASTIC series, and I was expecting a fantastic finale. The Stolen Earth built up to it well, and it felt like my hopes had been satisfied. But - perhaps it was because it felt rushed and a little all-over-the-place, even for Doctor Who at 65 MINUTES. Perhaps it was because the plot devices and strands seemed unending and confusing, and could easily have been cut (Osterhagen key? What the hell?). Perhaps it was the return of Rose, which made the poignant finale of the second series seem hollow and worthless. Perhaps it felt slightly uncohesive and struggled under the weight of everything. But it wasn't without its good points too - Julian Bleach as Davros was stunning (the reason I bump this up to 3 out of 5) and his speech lording it over 'the true nature of the Doctor' was genius in writing. Yet, after so many brilliant episodes (2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 10, 11 and 12) this felt distinctly hollow and underwhelming.

I think that so much more could have been achieved from this episode, good as it was, I am also glad that after the 4 tv movies next year, he wont be back. It is a shame he has penned the 2 and subwritten the final two movies, but he could have let the duplicate doctor have some coral to grow his own Tardis. Donna could have been a unique entity, with a second heart and a time lady. It was missing the Brigadier, who should be appearing in the Sarah Jane adventures and finally, does this mean the Dr has lost a regenerative cycle or not, due to not changing shape.

Great finale, great 4th series overall... I think people have to get things into perspective and look at it as an overall package - something for everyone ... drama, action, humour, heartbreak and for me Julian Bleach's performance as Davros was simply incredible, perfect timing with the dialogue - intelligent and decidedly chilling. David T is a fantastic Doctor and I would really like him to feature in the first half of Series 5 in 2010 however I would like to see someone else with a new fresh take on the role so a mid season emotional regeneration plot would be fantastic - remember - there's always the Half human Doctor and Rose spinoff to visit every couple of years - see how this human character deals with the alien threats minus the Tardis and being more vulneable - well done RTD and the team PS - my 5 year old was nearly devasted at the end of Stolen Earth then soooooo excited at the finale ... if I could bottle that 65 mins!!!!

Good ending, could have been better but was overall good. =3
Steve, Warrington on July 13th, 2008
Does this change from RTD to SM mean we will finally get rid of Rose Tyler? I hope so. Doctor Who should be more than one companion and the fact that for the last 4 seasons Rose has been in or hinted at has gone sour. Did RTD really think that no one could carry the show other than Rose? Season 4 was carried by the billiant CT but over shadowed by the Rose obsession. And really, why does RTD think the Doctors love for his companion is any different than his love for Jo Grant, Sarah Jane or even Tegan?!!! I enjoyed the 4th Season. It had it's high and lows! Finally the Red Dalek makes an appearance, although it was to short!!! Going forward, why do we have to wait for season 5 for 2 years? If DT wants to do other things, hand over the reins. Stop pampering him!!!!

A fitting end to series

I thought episode 12, was the best ever. So I was a little disappointed with the last one. It seemed a bit of a let-down. The action dried up to quickly, and the ending was to sad, with Donna losing her memory, and the Doctor all on his own again, made me feel, like this was the end of an era. Which in some ways I guess it was, knowing that there is no full season until 2010, and that some of the main player behind the scene are leaving the show? This felt like the program coming to an end, and the teaser for a Christmas special was an afterthought. I love “ Doctor Who”, but I guess the powers at be feel the show needs a break. PS. I was happy that it looks like “Touchwood” will have a new permanent member in its cast. (I Hope)Martha was great in the episodes she was in last season, and I think she should stay with that show.

Lee<-------->London on July 12th, 2008
The Finale was 50/50 in my opinion as the only scene I enjoyed was when : Catherine Tait used her comdey in a tense situation and Davros's quotes were sensational!! Stolen Earth was packed with action and the scene where he Daleks attack the Valiant was directed with sheer quality!!!

Loved it. I will miss Donna though. The next companion should not be young and in love with the Doctor. My money was on Donna having a pocketwatch and actually being Romana ( or the Rani ).

Having been a Doctor Who fan since episode one (and still remember the huge disappointment when it was repeated the next week for those who missed it and so had to wait for episode two) could I just point out to Rose/Doctor fans that DR WHO IS AN ALIEN! So no go between Rose and him (thank goodness). Didn't like Rose, as you can tell, thought the romance storyline dreadful. However, thought Catherine Tate terrific and will really miss her (the fact that DoctorDonna could not remain stable just adds to the reasons Rose and Doctor Who could not have a relationship). The towing of the earth - get real! How much science/nonscience can you have in one programme? What I do miss are the longer series, where a storyline is continued for several episodes. Any chance of that next time round?

Peter, London on July 12th, 2008
I have grown up with Doctor Who, and feel the that it has matured with age. David is the best doctor ever, and Rose the best assistant, however this doesn't take anything away from Donna. We all had our reservations and quite rightly so, well done she has proved us wrong. Was it only me or did anyone notice the look of fear in Sarah Jane's face when she heard the voice of the daleks.Excellent end to a very good series. BBC why not use BBC3 to show the early stuff in order, in particular the stuff with Sarah Jane. WHY NOT SHOW THE LOT EPISODE BY EPISODE, INCLUDING THE FILMS LETS SHOW THE KIDS OF TODAY THE PROPER HISTORY.

Dave, Manchester on July 12th, 2008
Fantastic episode, with a brilliant performance by Catherine Tate. I will miss her and also ex-roboman Bernard Cribbins, whom I'd become used to seeing. The only criticism I have is that, given that everyone else seems to have been brought in, why not have a cameo appearance from Nicholas Courteney - perhaps issuing Martha with orders to use the Osterhagen key? Also, I half expected The Master to turn up again - teaming up with The Doctor to save his own skin - but the again, perhaps that would have been just a bit too much!

I'm going to miss Donna. To me she was more like the companions of the Doctors of old. They did well by giving each companion their moment in the sun( a difficult thing to achieve with so many) and the TARDIS scene where they all got to pilot it (Poor Jackie) was incredible, like a fans dream come true. I thought it wise to take Rose back to the parallel universe. In ours she would only wish to continue travelling with the Doctor despite having one cappable of returning her feelings. I look forward to seeing Martha & Mickey in Torchwood. I felt TW handled Martha's character better in 3 episodes than DW did in 18 (she's much better when she isn't a love-sick puppy). Getting back to Donna though. I flet a little robbed by her losing her memories. Rose once told Mickey and Jackie that The Doctor showed you that life could be better and we can all make a difference. I think throughout the series that was a lesson Donna retaught the Doctor, so it seemed a little unfair for her to lose that part of her life. That is my only complaint with an otherwise outstanding episode.

WOW i WAS CONCERNED LAST YEAR WHEN THE SERIES LOOKED TIRED ,BUT,THIS YEAR WITH THE LIBRARY EPISODES & THE BEST ENDING EVER FANTASTIC LOVED THE DALEKS IN GERMAN NEXT DR A WOMAN?

It was just way too busy with too many sub plots to be a fulfilling end to the season. I was very dissapointed with the way they ended the Rose storyline, I think it completely undermined the end of season 2. Pairing her off with a human doctor? PULEASE! I found it way to convenient for my liking. The Daleks were killed off too quickly and too easily and Davros WTF!!!? He was the daleks pet? Absolute Rubbish! There were just too many characters to have them inter-relate with each other properly, eg Rose and Mickey???? Having said all that, I was deeply moved by Donna's demise. I thought this was done very well and the Doctor at the very end, his face made me cry! 3 out of 5

I thought this episode and the whole series was fantastic and definitely had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through!! I cant wait for the specials, and i hope david tennant is going to be with us for many more series' because he is such a fantastic actor and we are lucky to have him!!!
James - Hove on July 11th, 2008
Catherine Tate made this season extra special. I hope that they don't go back to the fluffy, girly-type companion for the next run. Someone strong to challenge The Doctor please. Loved it.
Bob, Waltham Abbey on July 11th, 2008
Although I've not watched a lot of Dr Who over the years, I've watched all the fourth series as I'm a big Catherine Tate fan and was not dissappoinited. I think the last 3 episodes were magnificent and although "Turn left" was not part of the finale, because of the "Rose" connection, is just as vital. To have the whole crew flying the Tardis and returning earth to it's correct parking place was visionary only to be bettered by the sad departure of Donna. Hopefully Russell.T.Davies will still have a part to play in future Dr Who projects.

Chris, - Dorset on July 11th, 2008
Immediately after airing I thought this was a 3/5, but in hindsight it was so much better leaving very much for the viewer to think about. Lots of very good things - Dalek Caan and Davros's accusing of the Doctor, Bernard Cribbins (again) and Catherine Tate. The bad? Rose's contrived happy ending and maybe just a little too much fanw*nk to cope with. All in all though, this delivered on most counts - just maybe a little too sad. I would have given anything to see Wilf climb aboard the Tardis with the Doctor at the end... Oh well....
Carla, Dereham on July 11th, 2008
It couldn't've been better! I know that there is a bit of a divided opinion with the second doctor being with Rose but I think that it was perfect, after all, he wasn't a COMPLETE stranger! he still has the same memories and is virtually the same as the original, so don't think of it as a great loss!
Marcus Sheffield on July 11th, 2008
I agree a stunning episode, whether perhaps of the best ever. I spent most of this season waiting for Rose to return but by about episode 9 I realised the Donna was the one (the best). Catherine Tate added another dimension to this season, and acted her socks off. its a shame her character "die" as it did but its a credit to RTW to end her reign in such a unique way. Donna and Dr Donna will be missed and will go down in companion history as one of the greats. cant wait for the Christmas special

Ben, Lancashire on July 10th, 2008
This episode is nothing short of excellent, as everyone while Torchwood, Sarah Jane, Matha and Rose all had there stories nicley tied up, the three people who mattered most also got a fitting ending, The Doctor, Donna and Davros. Series 4 has been Donna's story and it was her you where crying for at the end of the series, which I am relieved as it would have been anticlimitc for the charactor if it was all about Rose. Davros was brilliant in this episode, he was definetely worth the wait. The episode cannot fail to deliver, by having everyone's favourite charactors return and still weave a fantastic story. All in all, a brilliant script from RTD and he will be missed. Well done to all concerned.

Laura on July 10th, 2008
It was a good final episode, but it was very confusing. Personally i wanted rose and the doctor to get together and rose would stay in it and i am sure lots of others wanted that to happen. Catherin Tate was wonderful as it was the first bit of serious acting she has ever done. Billie is still my favorite of all time.

Catherine Tate has been the revelation of this season. I don't think we've ever seen an actor of such broad capabilities in the supporting role. And that's no slur on those who have preceded her. She is a unique talent and, given her head in this series, has made her mark. She's welcome back, any time. The episode was a feelgood ending to the sequence of three very dark episodes written by Davies that preceded it. Midnight is destined to be a science fiction classic--a drama that does not depend for its intensity on any of the traditional easy Doctor Who tropes. Here the Doctor found himself powerless and victimized on account of his own alienness. Turn Left was a showcase for Tate and a thrilling return to full participation by the much-loved, much-missed, Billie Piper. The Stolen Earth brings many former companions and spin-offs together, along with the daleks, and a return for arch-villain Davros. In Journey's End, the villains are all polished off in record time by a remarkable ballet, more often seen on the football field. The most enjoyable part of the episode, by far, was the long denoument in which several resolve plot arcs were at least partially resolved. A wonderful mash-up, it was, with (as the Guardian's Lucy Mangan said in a hilarious review) "something for everyone".

Hannah, Brighton on July 10th, 2008
Brilliant! The daleks were easily killed but then they always are! My favourite bit was when everyone was flying the tardis =) The bit where doctor no 2 went off with rose was slightly like a bad fanfiction but it was still sweet. I cried my eyes out when Donna went back to her old ways again and now the doctor is all alone =(
The Founder on July 10th, 2008
Gutted what they did with Donna,More sense to kill her off. Also the way the Daleks were dealt with was pretty awful.Glad DT is staying as the doc for now though

I thought this was a great episode, however being a massive fan of the Baker years i am still awaiting a Proper return of The Master, IMHO the biggest threat to the Doctor. Good stuff all round.
andrew, cardiff on July 10th, 2008
disapointed. started well but from the moment the 2nd doctor turned up it went downhill. the doctor spent most of the episode in a blue tube and not doing anything. there was a distinct lack of action. i was waiting for the promised death but it never came so it was a definate anti climax. oh and the rose beach scene was cringeworthy.
Julie maidstone on July 10th, 2008
it was brilliant. One moment i was crying in joy the next crying in sadness. It brings out the best of dt, catherine and billie. Also it ties in everything that was said in this series and ties in with the emotional 'christopher eccleston' doctor. I thought the way that the last scene with rose tyler and the two doctors was very brilliant and very well acted.
