Fantastic, GR8 storyline, I thought they were going to bring in Martha and Micky to replace Tosh n Owen, but they have done a fantastic job bringing more depth/history character development to Jack, Gwen, Lanto n Rhys instead of developing a role for Martha/Micky in Touchwood. Brillient, Keep it up.

I'm so glad I was wrong to fear the move to BBC1 would turn Torchwood into a light hearted "Doctor Who without the Doctor". OK, it's not the darkest thing Torchwood has ever shown, but it's not too far off. Love it so far!

Brilliant! Epic, funny, poignant, twisty, science fictiony, political and unsettling. Keep it coming!

I feel really sorry for Jack because not only are his deaths very painful, when he gets dragged back to life that is also very painful- as he says "like being dragged over broken glass." Plus he never ages- he is incapable of long term relationships and everyone he loves dies. if it all gets too much, he can never end it, he doesn't know if he will ever feel the relief of death.

Torchwood was exciting and full of suspense. After the two action packed first series, this third season feels a lot more serious- less sex and more aliens. amazing- just gets better and better- thinig about the next episode all day!

omg jack is a grandad how are ianto and gwen going to take it

i agree with the review but one thing i disagree with is the part where you say that its too soon for new viewers to be introduced to the families of characters they barely know. i think if i was a new viewer i'd recognise that this show has already had two series and shouldnt be going backwards for my sake. yes torchwood is looking for new viewers but it still has to satusfy its old viewers with character development so i think the families were brilliant, jack's really added an emotional depth to his character while ianto's were just plain funny

I thought it was brilliant. Great characterizations and build-up for old and new viewers. The cast was amazing and the story, riveting! Bring it on.

first episode was epic, i love the janto scenes i cant wait for more :D
Simon, Barkham on July 7th, 2009
I liked the fact that the 'above the law' stuff was coming home to roost. From the size of that explosion looks like they'll have to rebuild from scratch!

To gay and too Welsh just like every other TW Episode, and it went on for too long, 45 minutes would have been better!
Josie And Megan Sutton on July 7th, 2009
WE LOVED IT ! Hope Ianto is okay ! Go jack !

I thought the twist with rupesh was excellent, the way he'd been built up to be a new member and then he was suddenly revealed to be bad and bang he's dead. two things i would say, in regard to meeting the main characters families, we were introduced to Rhys in the first episode of series one and with ianto & jacks family, well in ep one of doctor who we were shown rose's family and that was no problem, if anything surely it strengthens the character letting them have a back story, and re:TC cardiff, a bomb is about to go off in your other half's stomach & your not sure if they'll survive surely wotever there sexualty they should be able to kiss them goodbye, and why's it such a big deal anyway?

There was more characterisation of the main 3 characters in this one episode than there has been in both former series. Why should fans have to suffer so that 'new fans' aren't bored by the characterisation. I loved meeting Ianto and jack's families.

From Ben's review and the comments below, it seems that I am in a minority of actually disliking last nights episode. Previous episodes have been both more fast paced and humorous. Last nights episode was dragged out and toned down for a new BBC 1 audience.

Hi Torchwood fans, What's occuring? Saw filming of hospital scene, he must be ok because what I saw was Captain Jack sprinting across an empty car park, this has not been shown yet!!! Bloody brilliant, wow wow wow, looking forward to ep 2, 3, 4, and 5 and buying it on blue ray, yeahhhhh how long till series 4???? If the beeb gets rid of Jonnathon Ross we can have series 4 at the end of this year lol.

I just watched last nights episode which I'd taped. Wow, wow, wow is about all I can think of. Spellbinding, from the very start with an amazing ending. Soooo different from 23 hours per day of sh*t on TV. I lost interest in it ages ago. Yet I watched Torchwood last series and it renewed my faith in BBC. More, more, more, please, along with Being Human, a series I watched last year, two shining stars in the black sky of black hole TV. Roll on next episode. Great acting, great story line and not a Susan Boyle in sight, sooo refreshing.

Brilliant, loved it, edge of the seat stuff....but only 5 days? Come on beeb...we pay the fee remember.

I'm a new viewer, and I thought it was amazing. Especially the family scenes.

OH MY F G! Unbe-freakin-leaveable! Missed TW sooo much! Fave Quotes: "What's Occurring?" & "Here I go, into ENGLAND!!!" lol xx
Gaz on July 7th, 2009
A nicked Quatermass plot with bits of Queer As Folk thrown in. Casting by quota, London bad guys, and outright racist anti-English comments. Yes Russell T Davies is back - the biggest hack and bigot in TV writing.
Michael Anderson on July 7th, 2009
I thought it was the best ever! After the BBC making the massive fans have a well long overdue wait for a five-part series, it was worth the wait! From the hospital shenanigans of Jack and Ianto the 'couple' to the introduction of Ianto's extremely funny sister and Jack's daughter, to the explosive ending and cliffhanger, Children of Earth hits the ground running for what I think will be Torchwood's most popular episodes and easily the best episodes from the sci-fi phenomenon yet!
TC Cardiff on July 7th, 2009
I still can't see the need for "gay" kissing on this program, there is no way that that has anything to do with the story
MJ-Manchester on July 7th, 2009
It was absolutely brilliant! Have been waiting for the return, wondering how it would be after the death of two main characters last season. But I have not been disappointed! Bring on the next 4!!!
Dean In Birmingham on July 7th, 2009
I loved the episode! Jack will survive, i'm sure. I bet that burnt body thing at the end is jack!
Simon, Kent on July 7th, 2009
So far, so good. Torchwood is getting a story, and acting, that are worthy of BBC1, and it is being lifted as a series from a derivative mess with Hammy acting and too homoerotic bonding, to a mature peice of science fiction with proper character moments and a sense of wonder. Hopefully Torchwood will continue in this manor each year forever!!
Steve, Bristol on July 7th, 2009
Absolutely brilliant! Best Torchwood episode ever. Lots of action, humour, great acting. Bet the kids had loads of fun filming their scenes!
guinjen on July 6th, 2009
Fabulous - how have we survived without Torchwood for so long???!!! - and loved the Ness spoof of "What's occurring?" As one taking my shots to get into Wales - hats off to the Cardiff rift!!!
Adam, Cardiff on July 6th, 2009
Brilliant. Evidently opening itself up for a wider audience, but fans are not let down at all. Funny, chilling, tense and poignant - not many dramas can achieve that. Roll on Day 2.
Paul on July 6th, 2009
It was a bit slow. But the end build up was fantastic and true to form. The bad government guy is a good twist to make you want to know more. Can't wait for episode 2, but without the boring bits...
MJ Birmingham on July 6th, 2009
