The BBC and RTD have ruined Torchwood by killing off another key character. They fail to appreciate that the fans will be loyal to a show because they like the characters in the show. They've killed Ianto who was mine and others favorite character and they've turned Captain Jack into an even darker character by having him sacrifice his own grandson. The BBC have said the death of Ianto was to further develop the character of Captain Jack but into what a more tragic and darker figure than he is now. If the writers and the BBC care about the fans they will find a way to bring Ianto back and restore Torchwood to the show that the fans love to watch. Many other fans feel the same please go to www.saveiantojones.com and show your support.

I just watched day 4 and 5 as i was away.I can't believe they killed Ianto.I love Gareth David-LLoyd.I was hoping they would bring him back in episode 5. I can't see them doing a season 4 as its changed so much.No Owen,Tosh,Ianto and no hub.Its just not torchwood anymore. Overall the series was brilliant but the drath of Ianto disapointed me and episode 5 was scary. xx

Jacks grandson should have turned out to be immortal too. It was quite shocking to see a child shake and die like that on tv. Jack can time travel, he could go back and stop it all before it ever happened if actors want back in the show.

*sob**sob**sob**sob* Fantastic, but poignant, harrowing and incredibly emotive episode. If there were a rating it would be 5 stars, the scene of discussing which 10% of children would die sent shivers up my spine, and made me truly understand how dark Torchwood had gone. TBH I was never much aof a fan before Exit Wounds, now I'm going to have to go and look up series one and two! This ep was the best out of the five.

I completely agree with every comment i have read so far, the BBC has made a huge mistake in killing ianto because they have just destroyed a majour theme to the programme, half of torchwoods fan base, an amazing character and, in my opinion, the show. I doubt that i will be watching the next series of torchwood, that is if there is one after day fives ending. Is it just me or does all TV seem to be depressing this year?

I think the best bit about Torchwood was the interaction between Ianto and Jack. It was funny and heart warming and real. Gwen and Jack would make it to much of the "same old". Bring back Ianto - perhaps Jack could have his DNA cloned.

I only ever watched Torchwood for the Jack/Ianto story and was so annoyed that they decided to kill of Ianto!!! Saying that - I really enjoyed the show.... But if there is a 4th season I won't watch it, unless they somehow bring Ianto back!
Anne on July 11th, 2009
i hope that they will at least show that Jack kept his promise and didnt forget ianto in the 4th season.

Seriously, they need to bring some really amazing characters in Torchwood Season 4 if Ianto won't come back. If not, I wonder how there'll be any chance people continue watching it. Sure, you can't keep the same actors in a series forever, but with Torchwood it was somewhat different - it never got boring with them. Why do they need to kick the best guys out? Now there's Jack and Gwen left, and I suppose Gwen will stay home for the baby now, so Jack's on his own. There must be a completely new crew, and I'm not sure if I want that. As I said, those new crew members need to be as lovely and funny and clever and just adorable as Tosh, Owen, Ianto and Gwen. If not, I'll be SO SO SO disappointed.

Ianto's death was completely unnecessary. I understand it's just a plot device to free Jack to go fuck around the universe. You want examples of the plotholes? It's actually ridiculous how Rhys is given Ianto's duties so Ianto can go to get killed. Jack should have gone to face the alien alone, not bringing his mortal and therefore vulnerable lover with him. And what about evacuating the bulding before taking any kind of action? And what was exactly the plan? Come on!

why no day 5 verdict??????

Overproduced, overacted, overcast, overlong and overscored in the hope that no-one would notice that the script was written by a cliché-shuffling cynic, acted by a ragbag of overpromoted supporting artistes, and directed by somebody Jean Claude van Damme would have sacked. 6.2 million people can be wrong.

I cant see myself watching series 4 without Ianto. I only watched Torchwood for him and Jack. Plus Ianto was the best character for me. Its a shame as I really loved the show and will miss watching it but I can't watch a show that is just Gwen and Jack. That would be torture!
Lana York on July 11th, 2009
I feel robbed!!! First we lost Tosh as well as Owen and now the best character for me is gone. Without Ianto in the show I will not be bothering to watch the next series unless Jack decides the world owes him a big favour for all he has sacrificed and brings Ianto back. Plus the way the show is going Gwen will die next so whats the point in watching? I bet Torchwood just lost a lot of viewers if you combine Ianto's death with Tosh and Owen's from the previous series. All I can say is bring back Ianto!
Beth Newcastle on July 10th, 2009
That was the single most sad thing I have ever watched and even now I am still crying. This time they have gone too far and I don't think that there will be another episode of Torchwood, but if there is they need to bring back Ianto, otherwise I will not be watching it. Ianto was the best character ever and I love him. Come back soon Ianto.

Guy's stop harping on about the Doctor, he can't be there for everything! After all he's not there for the end of the world! I must admit I wondered why no one called him and then remembered. THE HUB BLEW UP! That put me right. Really enjoying this. Devastated that Ianto is dead. He was absolutley my favourite character. I love that relationships in TW are based completley around who a person is and not what their sex is. Not sure if I'm looking forward to tonight though! All those kids!
BeeGrrl on July 10th, 2009
Just watched it on iPlayer... must say I was shocked when Ianto died, I mean, come on, that's not exactly fair. However, did anyone else notice he was wearing a waistcoat all in the building and then he was in jacket & tie when they uncovered him... is this a clue or just a mistake? Maybe he wasn't dead in this episode and dies tonight instead? Or maybe I'm looking too hard into this... Want to see if the human race can finally go into war without losing against these strange projectile-vomiting aliens and win ~ but then again, when has a war ever had a winner?
Karla Melbourne on July 10th, 2009
The idea of a Jack/Gwen show is just bad. scene 1: funny gwen says something immature and stupid scene 2: look at the screen i sense a disturbance in the force. scene 3: repressed sexual tension scene 4: fighting aliens trying to be badass (but not a millionth as badass a Ianto on the forklift) scene 5: implosion of sexual tension. scene 6: Gwen is a human being and has a husband, luck gwen scene 7: gwen admits to cheating with jack, rhys is upset but bottles emotions up and decides to do what he does best and be submissive. scene 8: more try hard badassery scene 9: more gwen jack horny end episode. and that was all of season 4.

RTD ... how perverse to not only kill off the first, (as far as I'm aware), gay couple in sci-fi, but also demolish an entire fanbase too. Well done. What's next. Bump off Jack, Gwen?? The series itself?? You might as well have done mate. Disappointed?? Yup. Just a tad.
MJ B'ham on July 10th, 2009
I couldnt agree with Fiona more, to kill off Owen and then Tosh and now Ianto, if Ianto isnt bought back to life in tonights episode or early in the next series i doubt very much that i will bother watching again. He was my favourite character and with Ianto gone we're looking at the Jack and Gwen show, sorry no thanks.
Jenna Beth, Sutton Coldfield on July 10th, 2009
I am determined that Ianto can not be dead. I love him way too much. And Jack not saying I love you at the end broke my heart. I like it and I'm kinda annoyed cause in DW they just call the Doctor for an emergency and now they don't. I am kinda annoyed that they don't swear...I know it's not a nessity but it makes the program more mainstram then it used to be. I know like Gwen I never have before but I really like her now she's very funny. But Ianto CANNOT die! He just can't there has to be a way around it!
nichole, cardiff on July 10th, 2009
i bet he isnt dead. he was the only realistic character who makes coffee

Just when I thought Torchwood might be developing some substance, it falls to pieces in a mass of contrived nonsense. Where did all the intelligent characters go?
stu manchester on July 10th, 2009
Ianto was a great big wet lettuce! So...where is the Doctor when you need him?
Kenji US on July 10th, 2009
I don't see the plot holes D.P was talking about. I think the fact that children are being controlled by the 456 is good proof they can at least control humans. The 456 knew what they were doing by controlling the children, maximum shock factor. Why wasn't there an attack on the 456, well it was said that they had no base that could be detected by any human equipment. It was assumed they had a nearby base. And in the previous DW universe stories Torchwood or the Doctor was there to lead the fight. Up until episode four Torchwood was out of commission and no contact with the government (except Lois). I don't know about British politician but in the US most people I know would assume the politicians would respond the way that the PM and his Cabinet has. It is sick but that is the way things are. Myself I loved this episode. It pulled all the heart strings and I had a couple of tears. That said, I liked Ianto, but I have to say I like Gwen the most. I was hoping that Frobisher would have found a back bone in the Cabinet meeting with the woman who thought of choosing the lowest 10%, but alas he failed me. I think this was the best episode so far, but I thought that with Days 1-3 too. I hope day 5 can live up.

Well i never expected THAT - what a shocking ending - not quite up there with the devastating ending of season two - but close - can't believe we are down to two TW members now!?! Another brilliant ep and lots of political statements about immigants and failing schools - way beyond normal sf fodder isn't it? Fingers crossed for a ending to cap and trendous return for Torchwood
Rebecca, London on July 10th, 2009
I'm devastated. I still can't believe it... They actually killed of the character I love... If they don't bring Ianto back today, Torchwood died for me... Maybe that's childish but I don't care... Jack's and Ianto's relationship was the main reason why I watched TW. I loved them and I loved Ianto... They better bring him back!!!

I'm sorry but how can just the finest hour of television there's been for years not get 5 stars, the performances of all involved not just barrowman and lloyd but clement aswell, that was just a chilling scene. the fact that i found my jaw droped for most of the episode tells its own story. to see what the politicians have been reduced to, to see that jack might just be fallible. its set things up rilliantly for the finale. my last point, i am so fed up with your criticisms of "no actions" and "its a bit slow" i'm sorry but if you've gpt an attention span of a goldfish it aint torchwoods fault, with so much time to play with i would be disappointed if they went for all out action rather than the slow burning development and characterisation route. just a perfect series so far, surpassed all my expectations. RIP Ianto

Another show bites the dust! Ianto was the only reason we watched Torcchwood. With just Jack and the ever annoying boggle-eyed Gwen left it really is time to say goodbye.
Trevor, Safron Walden on July 10th, 2009
Really loved Day 4. Nice homage (Lab Coat) back to the original Story/Plot - I hope the original Author gets a credit in the Day 5 credits. I also hope that the ending is not the same although all the relevant threads are there so it doesn't look good. I did enjoy the Cabinet discussion about which children to sacrifice - probably very accurate - PM Green hmmmm what could they possibly be hinting at?. Am looking forward to day 5 if only to see the peasants sry voters rise up and say no.
KT, Liverpool on July 10th, 2009
I'm totally distraught about Ianto, I sat there last night saying don't do it, don't kill him off. I think after the way they killed off Tosh and Owen at the end of the last season Russell could have let this one go, and let what's left of the team survive for series four. That's if we get one, if we do the format should definately go back to the 13 ep series rather than 5 in 5 days, its robbed us of months of veiwing pleasure and anticipation. I also think the stories fell short in one major way too, lets face it, if this was happening in 'who world', the doctor would be the first on the scene, we've been given no realistic explanation of his absence.
Ami, Manchester on July 10th, 2009
I'm still in disbelief that Ianto died! After Tosh and Owen, you'd think that the deaths would stop by now, surely? From seeing the preview of Day Five, I think we're in for a very chilling yet shocking finale!
Lisey, Merseyside on July 10th, 2009
Bring back Ianto!!!!!!!! Don't think I'll ever watch Torchwood again if he's not in it he's my favourite character. The show focuses way too much on Gwen who gets on my nerves but other than that (and killing Ianto - how dare they) this series so far has been gripping. They really could have condensed this into 2-3 nights instead though as there has been quite a bit of padding.
Lou on July 10th, 2009
Poor Ianto! And poor Jack! I've never been a huge John Barrowman fan, but when he was craddling Ianto and begging him not to leave him I just wanted to hug him and never let go! Brilliantly acted by John and Gareth. How can you only give it 4 stars?? That scene alone should be worth 5.
David - London on July 10th, 2009
Can they clone him ?
David, Middlesbrough on July 10th, 2009
Without a doubt Torchwood has been one of the best shows on TV this year! Hats off to RTD for being bold enough to kill off another major character. I don't think series 4 will consist of just Jack and Gwen when there are already three potential new members of the Torchwood team on standby in the form of Rhys, Lois and Johnson. Tonight's episode will have a lot to live up to.
Patrick, London on July 10th, 2009
what a fantastic hour of tv, my pulses raced, my heart broke, my temper flared, and my goosebumps shivvered, what the hell are torchwood gonna do to get us out of this one? Anyone think the only way out is for the Doctor to make a surprise last minute arrival? he should be with his favourite planet at a time like this: Doccccctooooorrrrrrr!!!!
