Cant believe they killed Ianto ! WE LOVE IANTO
Ellie, Malvern on July 10th, 2009
Does anyone care that Ianto is with his weirdo cyber girlfriend? I certainly don't. It's Jack and Ianto all the way and they have gone and killed the best couple off.
Lee, Australia on July 10th, 2009
Bring Ianto back! I love Captain Jack/John Barrowman, but without Ianto and the Ianto/Jack dynamic a 4th series would be pointless.

Being new to Torchwood I've been gripped all week to this storyline, especially last nights with the references to the previous huge pandemic in 1918 - scared anyone? I am...I am a firm believer that once these storylines hit the big screen that hey are based on fact, so watch out and take heed - 2012 is just around the corner (google it, Im not talking about the olympics either!) Brilliant acting, I just hope that the last episode has a spectacular ending and we are not going to left feeling deflated.

While I thought this episode was really good, I am actually devasted that they killed Ianto! I was in tears which is very unusual for me! Bring him back..If there is a season 4, I probably won't watch it without Ianto. But on the whole, an amazing episode!

In such a perilous time for the human race, why would the Doctor not turn up ?
Carol, Cumbria on July 10th, 2009
I am going to watch the last episode just to see how it ends but after this series I doubt I will watch it again if they bring it back series 4, Jack and Ianto was what made it work for me and killing him off was a really big mistake

I am devastated, but also hugely upset and angry at them for doing this. If Ianto is dead (something I'm struggling to accept), then they've just killed off one of the biggest draws for the fans. The 5 main characters from the beginning and the Jack/Ianto relationship were the things the devoted fans kept tuning in for. I doubt I speak alone in saying that they've let us down. Last night I was really sad, today I feel angry that RTD clearly cares so little for what we want that he could so callously kill off a character and storyline we care so much about. They only need to look on Youtube to see how devoted the fans of TW are, not to mention the endless fan sites and applications on facebook... This series has been well executed, and after anxiously waiting over a year for it, I was really looking forward to watching the drama unfold, and to see more of Jack and Ianto's relationship, especially as it was announced in the first ep that they were now an item. So, what the hell is going on?? Do they not wanna make any more series? Or do they not care what we think anymore?? Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying that the fans should completely dictate the plotlines- but giving the audience a semblance of what they are asking for never did Hollyoaks any harm. If anything, it boosted their ratings and won them awards.
mel portsmouth on July 10th, 2009
absolutely top class. beautifully acted scripted and shot. am so very sad about ianto - his relationship with jack had so much more to be explored , as did the character himself -we'd only just scratched the surface. please dont let him be dead!!!
Geoff, Dorset on July 10th, 2009
So, Jack's big plan was to face off an alien in an armoured cell (the boffin could have told him that at any point) with a half-loaded pistol and the fate of mankind in his hands? That was like one of the worse cartoon Ghostbuster episodes... Good emoting otherwise
Ruth, Liverpool on July 10th, 2009
The episode took my breath away it seemed so plausable, you could imagine the goverment thinking they are above everyone else, therefore their children should not be taken, but the last 15 minutes, tears poor ianto (please bring him back) 5 stars
A nonymous on July 10th, 2009
Gutted about Ianto but hopeful they will fix it properly coz like other's cant see myself watching any further otherwise - as for the 'spoilers on imdb from someone who got the dvd early' RUBBISH the dvd aint released till Monday so how can anyone have got it early? The imdb reviewer is talking about series 1 & 2 NOT children of earth
Andy Hutton on July 10th, 2009
If Jack never ages or dies, how does he grow into the face of Bo and eventually cease? I am guessing that his power may be ever so slightly diminished by somehow saving Ianto and/or the world, failing that I look forward to the Doctor charging in to save the day. The 456 cannot have it all their own way, do they not watch Sci-Fi? We are the all powerful, and always triumphant human race!
Sam, Norfolk on July 10th, 2009
Sat there stunned and in tears last night as Ianto died. Are they trying to outdo Spooks in the "number of main characters we can kill off" contest?! They shouldn't. End of last season was bad enough, but Ianto too? There won't be enough of them left to carry on. That aside, was simply the most gripping hour of TV I've seen since the Lost opening episode, many moons ago now.
Sose, Australia on July 10th, 2009
I can't believe Ianto's gone. I adored his character to bits and after we were promised that this series was gonna explore his relationship with Jack, I was quite miffed they killed him off. Not only that, I don't think he deserved to die the way he did. After all the heroisms the writers have built up for him so far, for Ianto to succumb to a virus isn't fitting in my opinion. I guess if you've listened to the radio plays, especially The Dead Line, his speech to Jack is full of foreshadowing. But I guess you can never expect it.
Iaq Gettings - York on July 10th, 2009
This is incredible tv. Absolutely gripping and must-see. I never expected to let the programme dominate my week like this - even my parents and sister have been ringing me up about it. Poor Ianto - never expected that. Will Gwen be next??
Michael, Cardiff on July 10th, 2009
No!!! Ianto can't die! There must be a way which Jack's kiss transfered some of his healing powers to him...? Or the Doctor comes back and reverses time and space...please??? I'm a little bit worried about tonights episode as Russel T Davies has never been any good at writing the endings for his shows. The intro's good, the setups fantastic bordering on genius, the endings...well lets hope episode 5 breaks his run! Good viewing all! Bring back Ianto!

A very compelling episode and classic Torchwood, what with another main character being killed off. I was thinking the same thinga as most people here, why did they give in without witnessing the power of the aliens first? Then I thought that they have shown their power by making all the children of Earth speak at the same time. If they can do that, maybe they can make them all jump off a building or worse. Very sad about Ianto, surely he can't really be dead? Why did Jack not say he loves him? Maybe he knows he isn't really dead? Can't wait til tonights episode.

Great first four, 40 of us at a secret location in the New Mexico desert are looking forward to the fifth thanks to mad martha at mininova. Good thing the U.S. still has an armed population. Better to die as men, than live as cowards. Fight, fight the future!!! "This We'll Defend".

It may have been one of the best written episode of any series i've seen for a long time but in all honesty Ianto was my favourite character and in killing him off the writers have made sure even if i can appreciate it as a well written and brilliantly acted piece of drama I didn't enjoy watching it and as i've ended being made up so upset and depressed by it I probably won't even want to watch this episode again, which as a big fan of Torchwood is a sad thing for me personaly and probably not the reaction they were aiming for.

You are very hard to please Mr Ben Rawson-Jones. I am too but Torchwood Children of Earth has exceeded my expectations. Excellent so far. By the way, Ianto better not really be dead, Russell T Davies, or you will have to hide. Poor love, every time you open your mouth to speak, someone will interrupt you and say,"Never mind that, why did you kill Ianto?" You will be asked that question till the end of days. And another thing, it's five stars I think you'll find, Mr Cult Editor sir. Thank you!
malkyj, birmingham on July 10th, 2009
Very good episode which kept the tension going throughout. I did think Ianto's death scene went on too long though. Once again, I was much more interested in the machinations of the government than in the activities of the TW team. They are just far too self-indulgent and amateurish for my liking. They need to be be more like Frobisher, focussed on dealing with the crisis at hand and sublimating their emotions rather than confronting (supposedly) powerful aliens without any real plan, a strategy which ended with futile shots at bullet proof glass. I quietly fumed at the way the government are the obvious bad guys here but Jack is quickly fogiven for his part in 1965 because he's such a nice guy really. He was also quite willing to sacrifice the kids to save Ianto, an act which I saw as just as selfish as those Cabinet ministers prioritising their own offspring. For me, Peter Capaldi's is the standout performance, every line of his face shows the inner torment he is experiencing. I find the actress playing Lois Habiba rather wooden though - she always seems to have the same bemused expression. My guess for the last episode: the 456 will be exposed as scammers. They (or it) is dying (hence the fits and throwing up) and needs the kids to feed on in order to stay alive. They bluffed the UK into "capitulating" once and are doing it again despite being weak rather than powerful. Strange that the world should have assumed they are powerful despite kids being regularly possessed by other races in DW and SJA. The reason that Clem was rejected by the 456 will be pivotal in their destruction and Frobisher will redeem himself by nobly sacrificing himself for the good of humanity.

I am upset and angry about Ianto's death. Although it was a great episode, I am so gutted about the fact that my favourite character has now gone, I will watch the final episode of Children of Earth as I am praying that this isn't the last that we will see of Ianto Jones. However if it is, I will not be watching season 4, as it won't be the same or half as good without him...in my opinion anyway!
sarah,glasgow on July 10th, 2009
Honestly i don't think hes dead just by rewatching torchwood at 11.45 last night Ianto cant be dead, has no-one picked up on what the tracker guy said about ianto working in torchwood 1 in the 90s ianto is atleast 26 if he worked there in the 90s he would have been atleast 10 or little bit older, so obviously theres something more to this story and he could be back in series 4 or magically reappear tomorrow night HOPEFULLY
Phil, Sheffield on July 10th, 2009
I can't believe people are actually encouraging bringing Ianto back to life. That's what I DREAD happening in the next episode, not because he's a bad character (he wasn't, probably the best of the original 5) but because every time a death is undone the emotional impact is cheapened. How many Torchwood characters have died and come back to life? Jack, Owen, Jack, Rhys, Jack, Jack, etc. Add to that Doctor Who's deaths and/or leaving forever only to come back /to life, you get a ludicrous cheapening of the impact of death on screen. Besides, you've got to care about the characters you kill off, or what's the point?
Anne, London on July 10th, 2009
The fact that they killed of Ianto Jones in a rather useless and...well, let's face it: absolutely unnecessary way has left me feeling doubtful for the next series. Without the humour that the character presented, how will the audience cope? Gwen Cooper has never been funny, and Jack is far too dark for it. Even with Lois as a possible replacement, it is not Ianto. The last episode might be good, but with the loss suffered I do not think the ratings will be that high, and I am unsure if the Janto fanbase will even attempt watching it. I might be wrong. A good episode ruined by the useless death of of one of the best LGBT characters we have ever seen.
Nan on July 10th, 2009
If the best Russell Davies can do each season is kill off one or two of his team for shock and emotion, it's time to hand in the towel. Yes, it was very very sad and we've seen it all before, but there is a real problem when a wonderfully engaging character is sacrificed to up the tears. Too many plotholes and just the same old, same old sad ending.
Tammy, Portsmouth on July 10th, 2009
I think this episode was a disgrace, actually the whole 3rd season is a disgrace. They have focused on Gwen and Rhys's relationship throughout season 1 and 2 and then they promise us to explore Jack/Ianto's relationship and then what do they do? Make GWEN PREGNANT! Then they kill Ianto off, cutting away the only character I can actually feel for. I hope Russell T Davies pulls something out of the hat to bring Ianto Back. Otherwise I loved this season, it's been gripping.
Becca, London on July 10th, 2009
It may have been a good episode but I am so upset and annoyed that they have killed Ianto that it doesn't matter overall.

D.P, Brighton on July 10th, 2009
Full of plot holes pulling me out of the drama (why give into the aliens demands before we're sure they can hurt us? In the DW universe we're more than used to fighting aliens and going to war at the drop of a hat- why not this time? The world has to give up the children, why is GB making this decision separately?) and a cabinet full of contrived characters to be mouthpieces for the plot and unbelievable and uninteresting as human beings- I know they're politicians but still they're barely even struggling with it and it's not like going to war. Dreadful and with the best characters all gone I find it difficult to care.
Megan Matthews Brighton on July 10th, 2009
it was greeat episode. but i was devastated my iantos death (the best character in my opinion) and i can't believe i'm saying this but i actually can't see myself watching series 4 .. without ianto so many things which made torchwood great disappear. agreed deserves 5 stars for last 5 minutes alone. (well done to john and gareth beautifully done.)

I can't believe Ianto is gone. I loved the character - a real sensitive guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. There's major spoilers on IMDB from a fan who got the DVD early... I'm not sure I can recover from all this stress this evening!

wonder why they didn't use the ray gun thingy torchwood used to blow up the sicorax ship on xmas day, it wasn't at torchwood tower so it must be around somewhere, but then that would probably have meant only 3 episodes. anyway, i reckon the rift will somehow save the day.

I dont know what to say!!!!! One of the best hours of TV I have ever seen. The final episode has a lot to pull off. Fingers crossed it manages to end this in the right way (the trailer looks good). And come on!!!! 4 stars!!! it has to be worth 5 just for that last scene!!!
