Day Five was brilliant and harrowing. I haven't cried that much since my mum passed away. It was brilliant television and my admiration goes out to all the cast and writers for portraying something so horrific with compassion and awesome acting. I was very disappointed that Ianto died but it just shows that no one is indispensible. I hope there is a Series Four but I am not sure where it would go.

I thought this was fantastic, but was slightly disappointed with the ending. I can't imagine there being Torchwood without Ianto and Gwen, and although Jack and Gwen's goodbye did bring a lump to my throat, it didn't have me sobbing like Owen & Tosh's did. I also prefer the previous format, with the several different stories, as it adds some variety and you get to explore all of the characters in more depth. But apart from that I really loved 'Children of Earth', and I hope they do a series 4!

Have to admit that this show seems to have set out to tick all the boxes to make folks uncomfortable; kill children, check; amoral politicians looking out for their own good, check; body-horror images ala Hellraiser, check. Also the plot was ripped straight from a combination of Quartermass, John Wyndham novels and the Twilight Zone so it was hardly original. Shame really - can't see it coming back for a 4th series and I'm not actually sad that's the case either.

With ITV axing its better programmes(heartbeat, Primeval etc. in favour of rubbish and soaps) I am hoping the BBC will continue to do what we pay it to do (licence fee) Torchwood is the best. Don't disappoint us BBC!

John Barrowman confirmed 2 month that he won't be leaving Torchwood so presumably there will be another series including CJ!

PLEASE don't let this be the end of the rift for the utterly brilliant Torchwood. Such a brilliant show, and this 5 parter the icing on the cake. Superb acting from all involved, great writing, thrilling, thought provoking, controversial it would be a tragic waste of the talents of all involved to call it a day. Please keep it going BBC Wales you have winner.

How could Jack do that? His own grandson. I know either him or millions but still. I think Torchwoods over. Hang on, Didn't the Doctor break his teleporter so he couldn't travel around but at the end he used it? Amazing Episodes. Gwen rocks!

loved it and sobbed my way through the final episode. It was so dark and yet compelling. The choices were all bad that had to be made. I so want it not to be the end for jack, gwen, and torchwood.

Terrific. A superb 3rd season of Torchwood, showing how much the show has envolved. After a mediocre first series, a pretty good second, it has now surpassed all expectations and delivered a shocking and brilliant series 3. Great acting from all concerned, especially John Barrowman, who's awful decision in Day 5 was portrayed superbly by his silent horror and sacrificing his own grandchild. Peter Capaldi was another highlight, with his performance being one of my favourite things. In a situation when you really think the Doctor will swoop in and save the day, this is the perfect example. With DT leaving, why not have him be in Torchwood? Because it would spoil what Torchwood does best; dark gritty drama. Did anyone know how they were going to get out of this one, following Ianto's shocking death at the end of Day 4? No. One of the many reasons why this was so powerful, up to the ending. Is Jack gone for good? He's rumoured to be back at xmas in another show... and if the BBC have half a brain Torchwood 4 will hit our shows come 2010! Bravo!

Fantastic!!!! i really hope it's not the end of Torchwood, i wonder why they moved it to bbc1 if they are going to axe it

What a fantastic series this has been.It was sometimes painful to watch but in a good way.Television drama this good is a very very rare thing these days and Russel T Davies and crew must be congratulated on not taking easy options to deliver a happy ending, there was no superhero to save the day,the Doctor didn't show up and Captain Jack had to make the ultimate sacrifice destroying the love of his daughter for ever leaving him a truly tortured soul. Without doubt the best drama on TV for many years.
asif Rochdale on July 12th, 2009
has to be the best drama for a decade at least. it could give the best of the US drama's. its going to be hard to follow that.
Sam on July 12th, 2009
Seriously? You gave THIS 5 stars? Jack just running away has got to be THE most unsatisying endings I've ever seen. The rest of the episode was amazing (although I did miss Ianto), but if that's the final ever Torchwood I am not happy...biggest let-down ever.
David, Sheffield on July 12th, 2009
The most stunning piece of television I've ever seen.
Chucky, Devon on July 12th, 2009
Grim is the word that comes to mind. Only for the events that happened in some of the most powerful, gripping TV that I have seen in many years. Gwen summed up the whole ethos of mankind's weak, gutless attitude to fighting back, instead letting our 'rulers' make the decisions for us, even though we know them to be corrupt with only their interests at heart. Some superb anti-establishment writing in the light of the expenses scandal. Full of sad moments- Ianto, Clem, Steven all being taken. Jacks eternal torture at his decision and the now estrangement of his own family. Also the revelation that the 456 wanted the children only for their own indulgences and not for survival or some other moral dichotomy filled me with even more revulsion for them. If this was the BBC's last ditch attempt to see if TW was going to be popular then the future is decided- at that rate it could run forever. If the decision to cancel has already been made then I'm sure the BBC's headquarters must have resonated with the sound of them kicking themselves! Simply superb, and who say's happy endings only make rivetting TV.

Torchwood has always been a brilliant show but this was pure genius! An amazing show which was full of tension and sadness. Great acting from Barrowman and Myles - glad she wasn't killed off - possible chance of her return one day! One question now remains - is there to be another series? Most cast = RIP and Jack has swanned off! Fantastic! Better than any DR. WHO episode.
Andy, Liverpool on July 12th, 2009
Ali... Are you serous about copy cat family murders??? Erm, to copy that might take a lot of work to get the aliens involved. Frobisher didn't just do it for a bit of fun, he did it under very exceptional circumstances and was very desperate. I am more worried about your comment...

I think Ben Rawson-Jones summed the story so well in so few words. For me the part where one small boy trys to run away while the other children get on the bus and a soldier runs after him and carries him back to the bus reminded me of a footage of a real boy running from the germans, knowing they were all going into the gas chamber, it was a film, it was real and has haunted me ever since. The other thing I noticed was at the end when Captain Jack Harkness has seen too much been through so much, everything is stripped away, the one linners, the bouncing back no matter how bad things were, he didnt even have any tears left to cry, he was just an empty shell, every emotion taken away from him, you saw it in his face, heard it in his voice. He'd lost everything over and over again but this was one time he couldnt stay and rebuild tourchwood, he'd given all he could. As he stood there waiting to be beamed to who knows where he might have been acting but I was sitting here thinking how I wished I could have done that. Having been through so much in my life caring for so many, never putting myself first and here I've sat for over 17 days alone, not one person to miss me or care about me, too tiered to carry on no I'm no longer need, with only hatred left. Jack harkness had to give his son up. For me my 2 son were my life, after my husband died in 2004 they drifted away until i dont see or hear from them. Its worse than if they'd died. Knowing everything I've ever done was for them and just at the thought of having to think about me, be there for me listening to what would help me and neither of them bothering to take in what I really wanted, to move from this house with too many sad memories, move to another area where people care about eachother and buy another little dog, that was all I wanted but didnt know how to do it on my own and now I'm stuck in this nightmare, too worn out even to care for myself. Thats why I only watch sci fi anymore. I dont want to know about real life but Children of the earth was too real. There wont be one single person who will miss me when I die let alone shed a tear, the odd person might say "wasnt she that person who was always looking after someone else?" How I wish I knew that feeling of someone caring for me but I never will. Old before my time yet im old 50, that isnt old today is it?
Maz London on July 12th, 2009
I thought that Torchwood: Children of the Earth was amazing and it should be given an award for best actor John Barrowman and best actress to Eve Myles. Their characters have grown since season one and I do hope that it will be given another series.

Terrible is the best way to describe Ep 5, it had nothing to it. It lacked a certain 'umpth' to it. The deaths of Frobisher, his family and Stephen were all written well, but for ep 5, that was it, nothing else stood out. And again Russell T Davies has got to learn to give us a real proper resolution to a finale, again it was just a quick fix last moment job just to secure it finishing it 5 eps. He can't write Sci-fi, this shows alot from all of his writing. Even in John Fay's episodes, there were RTD-isms as he takes too much control over everyone else's scripts and doesn't focus enough on his own. Ep 1 was ok, 2 - average, 3 - forgettable, 4 - great and ep 5 - major letdown. And even if Russell has killed off Torchwood, he needs to get it into his head that Torchwood is Sci-fi, not a drama. I'm ok with some drama, but this always lacked action, everything was resloved too quickly and killing off who he did, Russell is now forever going to get a backlash from fans. So, a dismal end to an average mini-series. Still I would have preferred a 13-week run.

It was simply the best tv drama I have seen in many years. Excellence in all departments, from writing, acting, directing, casting (especially casting for the great choice of Peter Capaldi). Hope to see more work of this quality with the next series(?)
liz swindon on July 12th, 2009
what can i say but brilliant. this is what we pay our licence fees for. i was captivated all the way through. the last episode has left me and all my friends talking about it. What would we do in a situation like that. We need more of this kind of TV please. 5 stars.

Dave, Gloucestershire on July 12th, 2009
Absolutely massive. British sci-fi drama at its best. Can't wait for the next "hit".
Kevin, Cambridge on July 12th, 2009
I'm sorry but terrible sums up the final episode perfectly. It was a MASSIVE let-down after the excellence of the other episodes. Yes there were good bits, Frobisher killing his family and himself was good but we saw no fallout from it. His statement was supposed to reassure everyone in the country, so what happened with all the journalists and police outside his door? How can anyone think that what was going on with the army wouldn't become headline news even in the traditional media let alone online? Maybe if there had been 6 episodes and there could have been more depth, and the solution to the 456 take less than 5 minutes and build up to Jack's grandson's death more emotional it might have been better but I was really disappointed that the quality plummeted like that at the end.

Matt - Truro Isn't that standard addiction behaviour. They started off very small and that was enough, but then they wanted more and more because it didn't give them the same 'hit' any more?

Sadder than the boy in the striped pyjamas! I hope Lois and Johnson join the Torchwood team otherwise we have a show about a pregnant welsh woman fighting aliens! Oh and please don't bring back Ianto it would ruin his brilliantly sad death that had me in tears.
