Axe, Pop and Amp are to be the names for Sky's three new music channels, according to Media Week.

Axe is set to rival MTV2 and Kerrang! by focusing on rock and metal music, whilst Pop will be aimed at young women and feature current hits. The third channel, Amp, will be along the lines of EMAP's Magic channel, broadcasting older hits targetted at an older audience.

The new channels, pencilled in for an April launch, will be overseen by Dawn Airey, who took over as chief executive of Sky Networks earlier this week.

More details on the three stations are expected to be released within the coming weeks.
