This machine is brilliant. Good menu's, access to HD, nice touches like programmable skip forward time, most information is accessable through the menu such as which programms are scheduled to record, which have been recorded, EPG and all that stuff as well as a superd picture and its dead quiet. One negative, the graphics are a bit hard to read and there is so much info on a page that its sometimes easy to miss what you want to know. If your driving a CRT through it, the graphics are even harder. Some people have moaned about the warm up time. It seems longer the more is on the hard drive ( I havn't measured it, it just seems that way) but its not that bad if you switch it on befor anything else. It apparently has a very low standby current. If all your other kit is switched off completely this is possibly the most environmentally friendly set up available. If all your other kit is left on standby then the low current usage of the Humax is irrelevent. The unit is small and unobtrusive, reaction to remote commands is pretty fast but not quite as fast a a Sky response, however most commands return far more informatiuon that Sky does. A great peice of kit and for under £300 from John Lewis, a bit of a bargain although no doubt, there are othe cheaper machines from other suppliers. Given past past experience, I'd stick with user recommendation. Not always is price an indication of quality, useability or good functionality. (Topfield).

I have had one of these for about a month now. It is a fantastic piece of equipment. Great picture and GUI, remote control layout is not as intuitive as Sky remote though.

Finally managed to get hold of one at Argos, great picture and very easy to setup. Only one drawback the length of time to boot from standby and front light very bright.but all in all well worth the money as no monthly outlay.

Finally managed to buy a Humax HD PVR, excellent picture, only drawback too few HD programs to watch on ITV.

Finally managed to get one from Argos. Excellent picture. Little bit pricey but worth the wait.Beats my Sky system hands down for saving money.

Bought the Humax, but hard to tell the difference because the Sony Bravia KDF-E50A12U has a brilliant clear picture to start with, but on the Bedroom TV Absolutly fantastic quality on HD,leaves my old Sky HD looking dismal.

So much better than Thompson Sky+HD at launch - some improvements would be nice but nevertheless very pleased.

I did warn him to wait but my dad ordered one of these from John Lewis in November and it was supposed to be installed early January (when they eventually got the stock). When first installed it did not power up properly but then seemed to work later. Picture quality is superb as you would expect from satellite. It packed up two days later and won't power on at all now. When he John Lewis they just passed him onto Humax who had a pre-recorded message saying either email or write about this particular model. So he went back to John Lewis who said they could exchange it but they don't know when they will have the stock to exchange it with. He has had to get a refund on the box as it could be a long wait and your consumer rights change after a while... So he is left with a dish on the wall (which he cannot get his money back for) but no PVR. In the end he will have to go for Sky+ I am sure some people have working boxes but this is just one experience I think you should consider when paying over £400 for satellite!
