I Have had my box for 3 years plus. Yes some failures, but can count in one hand and some of them have been software updates. I give anything a fair chance before getting the phone on line, but ive only done this 3 times since 1992 til 2006 fair enough

Bought a refurbished Sky+ V1 direct from Sky around 11 months ago and it has changed the way I watch TV! In the past it has been a little unreliable at times, and I have to unplug the box from the mains and wait for it to come back up again. This I feel is a small price to pay for what I feel is a really great system. It shall fill by heart with sadness to de-commision it when I get my Sky+ HD box in May.

I'm not a happy chappy, my first 20 hour box failed after just under 12 months on 31/12/04 & last Sunday my reconditioned 20 hour box died. Luckily I still had my old Amstrad Sky receiver which has given me know problems @ present. An engineer is due to call on 11th March & presume he will bring the old 20 hr box again. It seems this box has only a 12 month lifespan.

I have had the original sky plus box for 4 years and it has been brillent. Just the odd recording missed which is a softwere fault rather then enything wrong with the box. I am never getting ride of this box I love it.

I have had Sky+ for 4 years. 1st box worked fine for 11 months (lucky I know). They replaced it for a V2. In less than 24Hrs it would not work. They replaced it with a refurbished V1. A few months on and got pixels on recording and live TV. Took matters into my own hands and changed the hard drive for an 80GB at a cost of £35. It has been working ever since. Now, thinking of updating hard drive again to 200GB for less than Sky is asking for a 160 model. By doing this, I don’t get the Dolby digital problem. 200GB hard drive cost £62.00. Sky+ 160 deal £299.00. I hope Sky has learnt from problems with Sky+ and they don’t use them on Sky HD next year.

Have had Sky+ for just over year, the disc is now starting to lose space i.e. with no recorded programmes it reads as 30% available to use! No idea why and my warranty has run out now. Other wise no problems with the box until about 2 months ago.

Slav Ekkel, London on July 16th, 2005
I've had my V1 replaced four times over the course of 15 months. The first box lasted a good 8-10 months before failed recordings started appearing and growing in number. I had that box replaced for another which in turn also became faulty. When an engineer suggested a V2 I accepted. This failed aven to turn on when he installed it. I have now had my current V1 for 5 months and I still get failed recordings (mostly 'unknown reason') and daily signal freeze. Luckily, Margaret in cancellations was very apologetic and has sent out an engineer free of charge (month 18 of contract!) but I have asked for a V2. All in all, not a reliable box. Maybe just a lemon.

I got Sky+ on the refurbished deal around 18 months ago. The first box had a disk failure after about 6 months, and this one is starting to pixelate so it could be on it's way out too. When it works it's FANTASTIC and genuinely changes how you watch t.v. I've not had too many failed recordings, maybe one a month on average and find I have to reset or rebuild the planner about once every other month. On the whole it's an excellent device with a few early version problems.

I had this box as part of the £99 installed deal over a year ago, I love this box, I know its older and I expect the newer ones do everything better and quicker, but I have to say I think the newer ones look cheaper in design, with less attention to detail. I have had no problems with the box except when the new software was downloaded it missed a recording but nothing else.

I received a Pace V1 about 2 wks after Sky+ launched. This worked tirelessly for about 12 months until it started to make such a whining noise, most of the cats in the neighbourhood came around sniffing. This was swapped out for another V1 (V2 hadn't launched then). For over 2 yrs now this has worked perfectly, keeping the Payne household very happy. I have not upgraded it at all, and I find that when you use and look after it how you're supposed to, it will then look after you. I have had the odd Failed recording, however as I tend to keep on top of my recordings, if this happens I tend to then perform a housekeep to prevent any other possible problems. It is still very quick responding to remote commands, and whilst it continues to sit in its well ventilated position beneath the Sony TV, performing as it states on the tin, then I shall continue to be its best friend. Although maybe not as stylish as the V2, this is a bargain purchase for anyone taking up a Sky+ refurb deal.

Lasted 6 months and then failed to recover from a pwoer outtage. Always did seem to have too little vetilation, Replaced with an Amstrad box, which has credible ventilation.

My Pace V1 Sky + box has been excellent. I have had it for a few years now and have not had any major problems. I have had the occasional failed recording. But only 2 or 3 in a couple of years. The box itself looks a bit bulky compared to some of the newer Sky + boxes, but it certainly does the job I got it for. The box itself is still really quick to respond to commands from the remote control. I could not be without my Sky + box now, and if I do upgrade to the Sky + 160, then I will definitely use my existing Pace V1 as a multiroom box as i have had very little complaints about it.
