As of December 31, 2005, Sky had a 30.5% market share among homes equipped with a television. Analogue terrestrial was in second place with a 28.2% share, while DTT was on 25.7%.
Free-to-view satellite services accounted for a further 2.4% of homes.
Ofcom added that although Sky is now the UK's largest TV platform, seven out of every ten homes that take up digital are opting for digital terrestrial services. However, Sky's net UK subscriber additions in 2005 were greater than during 2004.
Going forward, Ofcom expects that the new Freesat service from the BBC and ITV will drive takeup of satellite TV by being an attractive proposition for second and third TV sets in homes that already subscribe to Sky.
