The conversion of cable television subscriptions from analogue to digital continued in 2006 with digital cable now accounting for almost 90% of all cable television subscriptions.

Ofcom figures released today indicate that 3.36m homes in the UK subscribe to cable via Virgin Media, Wight Cable and Wight Cable North - now known as Smallworld.

At the end of 2006, Virgin Media had 12.51m addressable homes. Of those, 4.85m subscribed to a residential service - down compared to the third quarter of the year. However, the percentage of customers taking TV services increased quarter-on-quarter, as did annualised ARPU, while churn declined.

Cable now has a 15.4% share of the digital TV market, compared to digital satellite's 45% and digital terrestrial's 39.4%.
