The Playbox will carry the free-to-air digital terrestrial channels, a seven-day listings guide, news, reviews, weather and travel features. More than 50 Playjam-branded puzzles, quizzes and other games will also be available.
Static is currently agreeing licenses with box manufacturers and said the Playbox is expected to retail at around £20. The hardware will use Static's interactive platform Trove which is already employed by Sky and satellite broadcasters overseas.
Static chief executive Jasper Smith said: "Playjam’s games have proven to be hugely popular for all the family and have the added benefit of driving pay per play, subscription and advertising revenues.
"With nearly 10m Freeview products sold in the UK last year, the Playbox will create substantial differentiation in the marketplace through its packaging and added value content."
