Fox News Channel have hired James 'Diana Love Letters' Hewitt as a war correspondent in the Gulf.

Hewitt, who has no reporting experience, is said to be earning £100,000 from the deal.

Hewitt has become notorious for his attempts to sell the correspondence between him and Princess Diana, and is held in contempt by the tabloid press.

Fox has become known for its personality-led style of reporting pioneered by the correspondent Geraldo Rivera.

The former Life Guards officer will fly out to the Middle East in the next few weeks. He served in the 1991 Gulf War, and last week said he is still a reservist and could be called up in any forthcoming military action.

Fox News Channel is available on Sky channel 531.
