Freeview transmission change nearly complete

Changes to the way Freeview service information is transmitted are nearing completion.

The use of a split network information table - a table which describes to set top boxes the technical parameters of a multiplex - has been introduced in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall.

A region-by-region rollout has proceeded relatively rapidly since the change was made in the West Midlands early last month.

The changes, which render a small proportion of old set-top boxes unusable, are expected to be completed across the UK in coming weeks.

Freeview said a split or dual NIT was now necessary because of the increased number of channels, radio stations and interactive services carried on the digital terrestrial platform.
