Humax fixes noisy set-top boxes

Humax has announced details of a software upgrade to reduce fan noise from two of its boxes.

The PVR-9150T and PVR-9300T recorders have been accused of making "excessive noise" by many customers. Some posters on the Digital Spy forums have even admitted to using sellotape over the fan exit hole in an attempt to reduce the noise.

Humax's 'Smart Fan Control' fix claims to "keep fan use to an absolute minimum by ensuring that the fan only switches on if the PVRs exceed a temperature outside of that necessary for safe operation and will switch off after a short period of time".

The upgrade will take place between November 27 and 29 on the PVR-9300T and from December 5 to 8 on the PVR-9150T. Boxes must be left in standby mode overnight in order for the software update to download.
