ESPN America will continue broadcasting on Virgin Media as a standalone channel, it emerged tonight.

The channel was previously sold on Virgin Media as part of the Setanta Sports Pack, which offered Setanta Sports 1, 2, Golf and News plus ESPN America, Arsenal TV, Liverpool TV, Celtic TV, Rangers TV and Racing UK for £15 per month.

Virgin is now making ESPN America available to subscribers on its M and L tiers of TV service as a premium channel priced at £10 per month. Any customers with TV XL who previously subscribed to the channel will not need to take any action. Customers who wish to subscribe to ESPN America on for the first time on any tier will need to call Virgin Media customer services to set up the subscription.

"We’re currently in talks with ESPN about their purchase of the Premier League content previously owned by Setanta," Virgin said in a statement on their website. "Right now we're not able to confirm whether customers with ESPN America as part of their channel bundle will get access to the Barclays Premier League Content that Setanta previously had the rights for."

The statement goes on to say that Virgin will not reduce the price of its XL television pack despite the loss of Setanta's channels tonight.

The cable operator explained: "Any customers paying for the Setanta Sports pack will no longer have any subscription fees to pay.

"As Setanta Sports was included at no extra cost in TV Size XL there will be no changes to pricing for this package.

"The XL TV pack still represents unbeatable value - don’t forget the XL TV pack has over 160 TV channels including Sky Sports News, At The races, Eurosport, Eurosport 2 and Extreme Sports. Plus, all XL TV customers have Music on demand and the 1000s of shows in TV Choice on demand included at no extra cost too.

ESPN America told Digital Spy earlier this evening that it is in talks with other platforms following the collapse of Setanta's British operations today.
