Pace unveils new HD multiroom DVR

Pace has unveiled a new advanced multiroom digital video recorder (DVR) solution for connecting multiple high definition set top boxes within the home.

As the first product of its kind to reach the market, the new box delivers a full dual tuner HD-DVR function to every connected television set in a cable TV household.

Built around the company's Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology, the device acts as a central storage point for multiple non-DVR set top boxes to access shared recorded content.

Pace's NAS architecture enables the solution to support nine simultaneous HD streams throughout the home. Users can also record six HD programmes at the same time, while still enjoying full 'trick mode' - pause, fast forward and rewind live TV.

Other features include a folder organisation system, bulk delete functions and a bookmarking option to continue watching content in another room.

The solution utilises Rovi's Interactive Program Guide, which is designed to be instantly familiar to pay-TV users, with simple features for consuming recorded and live content.

It also makes use of Rovi's Home Content Sharing (HCS) software for distributing music, video, photos and internet material over any DLNA, UPnP and DTCP-IP-compliant devices on the home data network.

"Pace's product development teams have achieved an important industry first in creating a multiroom DVR platform with a groundbreaking number of simultaneous recordings and HD streams that will delight cable subscribers," said Pace America's vice president of sales and marketing Tim O'Loughlin.

"We have chosen to launch our HCS system alongside Rovi's IPG due to its extraordinary prevalence in the cable market and its flexibility as an integration platform."

Rovi senior vice president of CE sales Simon Adams added: "Cable operators continue to look to deploy solutions that provide added value to their service offerings and provide subscribers with a cutting-edge home entertainment experience.

"We are excited to collaborate with Pace on the launch of an innovative multiroom DVR solution that brings consumers seamless access to digital content while also giving operators more choice on how to implement content sharing capabilities in their infrastructure."

Pace is currently demonstrating the product at the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing conference at the Colorado Convention Centre in Denver, US.
