Culture secretary Tessa Jowell is expected to endorse Ofcom's proposed timetable for analogue switchoff in a keynote speech at the RTS Cambridge convention tonight.

The plans involve a gradual phasing out of analogue signals by ITV region, beginning with Border in 2008 and finishing with Tyne Tees in 2012.

Jowell will also outline details of a package to provide universal access to digital services, ensuring that groups including the elderly, disabled and poor are fully catered for.
