NTL has confirmed its intent to bid for the rights to air live Premiership games.
Sky's long-standing monopoly on the rights is being ended by the European Commission, who have ordered that the Premier League create six "balanced" packages of live rights for all broadcasters to bid on.
"If the Premier League and the government are serious about creating competition in football, then we are serious about participating," NTL chairman Jim Mooney told investors in a conference call Tuesday.
Previous reports have indicated that NTL will be teaming with ITV to acquire at least 50% of the rights.
