User-generated-content site, YourKindaTV.com, previously only available online, is to be broadcast on Sky from this weekend.

YourKindaTV.com, which launched in September, will be shown on the Information TV platform, which offers low costs slots to specialist channels. The half-hour shows will broadcast at 9.30pm on Saturday and Sunday nights on channel 181.

Viewers and website users vote for the best of the user-generated clips uploaded onto YourKindaTV.com, to be featured on the channel. The company is also talking to advertisers about potential sponsorship deals and has launched its own UGC awards, the BUGAs (British User Generated Awards).

Michael Oxley, chief operating officer of YourKindaTV, said: “A large element of the YourKindaTV proposition is for the user generated community to share and enjoy their own footage.

"Now we are pushing the boundaries of user generated content further by offering our viewers the chance to broadcast their own footage and reports on the telly. If they submit something that is popular, then it will be on TV.”

Information TV's broadcast licence enables it to offer airtime on Sky's digital channels 181 and 182 to niche channels or programme makers for as little as £1,000 per hour.

The network recently showcased programmes from the Caravan Channel and Farmer's Weekly-sponsored Farming Sunday.
